Corry Gellatly, a scientific researcher at Newcastle University in the UK, has published the results of the study showing that in the father's gene containing X and Y sperm has the ability to help determine the sex of a boy or girl. of the mother during pregnancy. For fathers with more male relatives, it is more likely that boys will be born more than girls. As for fathers with female brothers, mostly female relatives, the likelihood of having a girl is higher than a boy. Whereas these things cannot be judged similarly based on the mother's genes.

Results reported on the sex of the fetus
According to a report by Newcastle University, researchers have investigated a study in a population of 927 families with a total of 556,387 people currently living in North America and Europe. The results showed that in the male body there is a gene that controls the ratio between sperm X and Y sperm, which is the factor that determines the sex of the born fetus. Although this gene is also present in women, it does not show results as clearly as in men.
Corry Gellatly explained that the gene that controls the sex of the reproductive process is divided into two groups of m and f, they will combine together into three types of genes including:
- The "mm" gene helps to support Y sperm formation
- The "mf" gene helps to form sperm X and Y with the same number
- The "ff" gene will help in the formation of more X sperm
These 3 genes will be the determining factor for the sex of the fetus whether the fetus tends to be a boy or a girl.
However, Corry Gellatly added, the sex determination based on the mechanism of action of these three genes is only relative, cannot provide 100% accuracy. Here are three commonly used medical techniques to help determine the sex of a fetus.
Supersonic
A pregnancy ultrasound is usually done around 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy to determine the sex of the fetus. At this time, the doctor may perform an ultrasound of the fetus if the baby is lying in a position that allows a clear view of the genitals. If not, the mother has to wait until the next ultrasound.
This technique does not always yield fully accurate results. The accuracy of the ultrasound depends on many factors: the lying position of the fetus, the experience of the sonographer, the ultrasound device and other reasons. Overall, the results of a pregnancy ultrasound have an accuracy rate of between 80% and 90%.
Spikes biopsy
The sex of the fetus can be determined through genetic tests such as placenta biopsy technique (CVS) or amniocentesis (aminocentesis). These are medical procedures to determine if your baby has an inherited disorder or has chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, or not.
In the case of women who are not at risk for genetic and chromosomal problems, the doctor will not prescribe placenta biopsy or amniocentesis. These 2 techniques are all thought to be able to determine the sex of the fetus with high accuracy.
Blood tests
A blood test looks for presence of Y chromosomes in your mother's blood and can then determine if you are carrying a son or daughter.
