Baking make up: what it is and how to do it in 6 simple steps

Fashions in make-up are constantly changing and new make-up techniques arrive . There was the boom of contouring (creation of shadows and lights on the face), followed by strobing (creation of only areas of light on the face), now it is the turn of Baking Make up  which has powder as its protagonist .

But what does the Baking makeup technique consist of and how is it done? Let's see it together with this simple guide.

WHAT IS BAKING MAKE UP?

The "Baking makeup" is a makeup technique that consists in the layering of various products such as primer, concealer, foundation , fixing them from time to time with powder (normal or HD). In this way, a base is created that hides dark circles, dilated pores, small fine lines and allows the makeup to last for a very long time. The proponent of this technique is the make-up artist of the stars  Mario Dedivanovic, who has been using it for a very long time on the beautiful and always flawless Kim Kardashian.

The peculiarity of this technique consists in applying the powder abundantly , in particular areas of the face, keeping it for a long period of time, as if that same area were to " cook ", hence the term " baking" . In fact, the literal meaning of the English word baking is precisely " baking ", a way to cook food that takes a long time.

HOW TO DO THE BAKING MAKE UP

Let's see now how to make baking step by step.

1. PREPARE THE EYE CONTOUR

As always, the first thing you have to do is go and prepare the skin to receive the makeup, even more so when you go to ' suffocate' it with such a strong procedure. Then apply a very moisturizing and nourishing eye contour and massage the area with your fingertips, the heat of the fingers will make the product penetrate better and, at the same time, stimulate microcirculation. If you have some expression lines, prefer a plumping product in order to obtain an instant lifting effect.

2. PREPARE THE BASE

Start, as you usually would, apply the moisturizer, the face primer (optional), the foundation, avoiding the eye contour area.

3. STRETCH THE CORRECTOR

Keep two concealers at hand, the first will be used to correct dark circles (so choose the most suitable color to contrast your dark circles) and a lighter one, better if with a yellow undertone to illuminate the area. The most suitable concealers for this use are undoubtedly the creamy ones. Spread the clear concealer around the eye area forming an inverted triangle. Don't be afraid, the key word is to abound !!!! The goal is to have an important concealer layer. At this point, lightly blend the product. Apply the concealer on all areas of the face where you want to have greater definition (eg center and contour of the face).

4. APPLY POWDER

The key point is precisely this, choose a powder with a yellow undertone if you want to emphasize the brightness, choose a white powder if you want to maintain a natural tone, however avoid HD powders as they are more difficult to manage especially if you have to attend an event or a photoshoot. Alternatively, and for an even more dramatic result, the powder can be replaced by rice powder . We then take a large amount of powder with a latex sponge and press it over the concealer to completely cover the area.

5. THE LAYING

At this point, leave the powder on for about ten minutes, so that it goes to 'cook' the area. In the meantime proceed with the eye and mouth make-up.

6. CLEANING

Once the makeup is finished, with a large powder brush or a fan brush, remove excess powder. The movements must be very delicate in order to remove any residual powder and leave the rest of the makeup intact. Once the powder is removed, our make-up is finished but mostly fixed .

ADVICE ON BAKING MAKEUP

Surely you have understood that the technique is very strong . The result will undoubtedly be very homogeneous and smooth but equally artificial and 'heavy'. The face will be uniform and compact, but it will certainly not have a luminous and natural look. To be clear, do not expect the naked effect, 'it is there but you can't see it'. There is baking! and you can see very well!

For the above reasons I don't feel like recommending it to everyone . Those who have particularly dry and sensitive eye contours may in fact have difficulty withstanding the layer of makeup. Those who have the area around the eyes marked by wrinkles and expression lines could highlight them even more with baking.

I would recommend it for special occasions with very important tricks, absolutely, I find that it gives the maximum of itself during photo shoots . It is used on television, in cinema, for advertising campaigns, in the world of theater, for drag queens shows or for burlesque.
