Google Chrome 's incognito mode is a great way to use the browser without recording any browsing history or download history on your device or in your Google account . It's also a simple way to browse privately so that people who access your computer won't be able to see which pages you've visited.

If you use incognito mode often, creating a shortcut to directly open Chrome in incognito mode is not a bad idea. The following article will show you how to do that on computers running Windows and Mac.
Of course, this is not a way to browse the web securely or completely anonymously because you can still be tracked online by your ISP, colleagues or the website you visit. In incognito mode, cookies are not downloaded, but websites can still see your IP address. Besides, you can still be infected with malware and spyware if you visit suspicious websites.
However, the ability to delete web browsing traces on a local computer is a great feature and very useful for many cases. You can turn on incognito mode on Chrome by right-clicking the Chrome icon on the taskbar and selecting New Incognito Window or pressing Ctrl + Shift + N on Windows and Cmd + Shift + N on OS X.
On Windows, you must add what's called a command line argument to the shortcut's path. To do this, you first need a desktop shortcut. If you don't already have a Chrome desktop shortcut, you can create one by browsing to the following path in Explorer:
C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Google \ Chrome \ Application
Right-click chrome.exe , select Send To and click Desktop (create shortcut) .
Now, go to your computer screen and right-click on the Chrome icon , select Properties .
Click on the Shortcut tab where you will see a box called Target . The path to the EXE file will be listed in quotation marks.
Click inside the box and move the mouse pointer to the end of the path (after the quotes) and enter -incognito . Note that you can enter a single dash or double hyphen and both work well.
"C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Google \ Chrome \ Application \ chrome.exe" –incognito
After clicking OK , you may receive a UAC warning that you do not have permission to make changes. Just click Continue and it will update the shortcut without any problems.
Now, you can double click on the shortcut you just created to make anonymize instantly. You should change the name of the shortcut to make it easier to distinguish.
If you want the incognito browser to open automatically when Windows starts, you can use other command-line parameters and just add -icognito parameter to the path to the EXE file above. The parameter to do this is -auto-launch-at-startup.
On OS X, you can't simply right-click the dock icon and add parameters, but you'll have to create your own small application to run Chrome with the same anonymous parameters. It sounds complicated, but the process is actually simple.
First, open a program called Apple Script Editor on your Mac. You can click on Spotlight search and enter Script Editor or you can go to Applications, Utilities and click on it.
Click New Document to create a new project file. At the top of the window, copy and paste the following code:
by shell script "open -a / Applications / Google \\ Chrome.app –args –incognito"
Now, click on File> Save and you will get the Save As dialog box . First, you name the application, simply the shortcut name. Next, the Where field you change to Desktop . Finally, you change the File Format to Application .
Click on Save and you will have a new icon on the screen. Now, you can click on the newly created application to open Chrome in incognito mode. The only problem is that Chrome cannot be opened.
If that happens, there are a few other options to follow. Instead of the line of code above, you can replace it with the following line of code:
tell application "Google Chrome"
close windows
make new window with properties {mode: "incognito"}
activate
end tell
This code will close any existing Chrome windows and then open one Chrome window in incognito mode. This is still not a perfect code because all other Chrome windows will be closed. Fortunately, there is one more script you can try to make everything in order.
on is_running (appName)
tell application "System Events" to (name of processes) contains appName
end is_running
set chrome_running to is_running ("Google Chrome")
if chrome_running then
tell application "Google Chrome"
repeat with w in (windows)
if mode of w is "incognito" then
set index of w to 1
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Google Chrome"
perform action "AXRaise" of window 1
end tell
activate
return
end if
end repeat
end tell
tell application "Google Chrome"
make new window with properties {mode: "incognito"}
activate
end tell
else
due to shell script "open -a / Applications / Google \\ Chrome.app --args --incognito"
end if
This script will keep any existing Chrome windows open and will open a new window in incognito mode. Another problem is that the application icon will be the icon of the default Script Editor.
To change this, click on the application on the screen and press Cmd + I or right-click and select Get Info . To change the icon for a Mac application, click the icon in the upper left corner and paste a new icon.
When you click on the icon in the upper left, you will see it highlighted in blue. Before pasting a new icon, you'll have to find one and copy it to the clipboard. On a Mac, you can use JPEG or PNG images, ICO files or any other format. You can use the icon available in the system or create a .ICNS file which is the icon file format for Mac.
To simplify, simply open the Application folder in the Finder and access Get Info in the standard Chrome application icon as shown below:
Click on the Chrome icon in the upper left and press Cmd + I to copy. Open the Get Info screen on the application you just created, select the Script Editor icon on the left and press Cmd + V to paste the new icon. You now have a true incognito Chrome app on your computer screen.
