Intel has officially launched the Intel  Core i9 series for laptops in the first quarter of this year, promising to bring the power of the desktop into laptops that were previously thought to be inferior to PCs. This mobile Core i9 series will have a base specification of 6 cores and 12 threads. Core i9-8950HK is the most powerful processor

This is the first Core i9 processor  for laptops, also the first mobile Intel Core chip with up to 6 cores and 12 threads. And with the great power it brings, the i9-8950HK can be overclocked and will often be used for high-end gaming laptops and workstations with large battery capacity and excellent heat dissipation.

According to Intel announced, this Core i9 series will give outstanding performance completely. Total War: Warhammer II gaming performance is up to 41% better, 4K video processing with Adobe Premiere Pro 2017 is 59% faster. In addition, the overall performance will be improved by up to 29% compared to the previous 7th generation Kabylake processor family .

Intel Core i9 is not the only line with 6 cores

In addition to the Intel Core i9 series that will bring 6 cores, Intel also launched the  8th generation Intel Core i7 series which will also have 6 cores and 12 threads. So it's not just a 6-core chip that you can immediately guess it's the core i9 series. These Core i7 series processors also promise much more powerful performance than the 7th generation Kabylake series.

By default, Core i9-8950HK has a clock of 2.9Ghz and a maximum Turbo clock of 4.8Ghz thanks to Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. But you can absolutely overclock it even higher. TVB is a feature that allows Intel's high-end CPUs to get an extra 200MHz even though it has increased to a ceiling of 4.6GHz Turbo Boost. Intel explains that they will boost 200MHz when the CPU temperature is below 50 degrees Celsius, to do this the company has tweaked the processes and microcode. TVB will automatically turn on or off depending on the condition of the machine, and usually the time when TVB is needed will be when you render images, videos, heavy 3D models.

Intel emphasizes that TVB is mainly for short-term acceleration, helping you to quickly solve something, not to run for a long time. When the temperature increases, the pulse increase is only about 100MHz and when the CPU reaches the threshold of 70 or 80 degrees Celsius, the TVB feature will no longer be activated. However, Core i9 will still run at 4.6GHz even when it has reached 100 degrees Celsius.
