iOS 14: How to automate Siri to show a successful battery charging notification

With iOS 14 , iPhone and iPad users finally have the ability to change icon color, customize icons, create widgets and make the Home screen amazing.

In addition to the customization options, Apple has also brought some big changes to the Siri virtual assistant, most notably allowing you to automate Siri to broadcast notifications that your iPhone is plugged in and charging . Now let's find out with WebTech360 what you can do with this new Siri feature!

What can Siri do while the iPhone is charging?

This new feature is automatically enabled in the Shortcuts app on iOS 14. When enabled, you can customize Siri to talk about anything you ask in the language and voice of your choice.

This feature will notify you that iPhone is charging every time you plug it in, so you don't have to check the battery indicator at the top like before. If you're using an old charger that only works when it's connected to the device at a certain angle, or if you're using an inexpensive alternative charger, this Siri feature will let you know if your iPhone is being charged.

How to turn on battery charge notifications using Siri

You need to know that the automatic charging feature with Siri is done through the Shortcuts app. So, if you have uninstalled the app on your iPhone, you need to download & reinstall it from the App Store.

Now we will use the Shortcuts app to automate the iPhone to make Siri speak every time the device is plugged in to the charger. Open the Shortcut app on iPhone from the home screen and tap the Automation tab at the bottom of the screen.

Inside the Automation screen, tap the Create Personal Automation button (if using the Automated Shortcuts feature for the first time) or tap the + icon in the top right corner of the screen (if you've used Automation on Shortcuts before).

In the New Automation screen , scroll down to the bottom of the screen, select the Charger section , then tap the Is Connected option on the next screen and click Next in the top right corner.

You will have to create a task when you connect your iPhone to its charger. You can do that by tapping the Add Action button in the Actions window. On the next screen, type Speak in the top search box and select Speak Text present in Actions.

After selecting the Speak Text action , tap Text next to Speak and enter what you want Siri to say when you plug it in. Then, tap Show More below the content just entered to see many options for editing this Shortcut automation.

When expanding the Speak Text task or clicking Show More , you can change the speed, voice pitch, and speaking language of Siri when the task automatically happens.

Note, Siri Voice options vary by language.

After making the necessary changes to how you want Siri to announce, tap Next in the top right corner.

On the next screen, you need to disable the Ask Before Running button . If you don't do that, Shortcuts will ask you if you want to automate Siri every time you connect the charger to your phone. That's annoying, isn't it? When Ask Before Running is turned off , the application only asks you to confirm the action, tap Don't Ask in the dialog box that appears on the screen.

You can now tap Done in the top right corner to save your changes. The new Automation Shortcuts will appear in the Automation tab of the Shortcuts app.

You can test this feature by connecting your iPhone to a charger. When you do, Siri will speak out loud what you wrote above and will display a message that Shortcuts Automation is running.
