Nationwide Building Society launched a 30-month Member Exclusive Bond paying a fixed 5.30% AER on November 3. The headline rate is available to qualifying Nationwide members, including eligible Virgin Money customers, and applies to balances of up to £10,000. Before applying, check your eligibility and whether you can commit the money for the full term.
Nationwide says the offer can be withdrawn at any time. Its launch announcement confirms the advertised terms, but it does not establish that the bond is still accepting applications at the time of your visit. Check the live product information and account-specific terms before making a decision.
Destaques
The product is a version of Nationwide’s Member Exclusive Bond, a fixed-term savings account rather than an ordinary easy-access account. Nationwide announced a fixed rate of 5.30% AER and gross a year for 30 months. AER, or annual equivalent rate, makes it easier to compare savings rates by showing the annualized effect of interest and compounding. It does not mean you receive 5.3% of your original deposit every month.
According to Nationwide’s November 3 announcement, a customer depositing the full £10,000 from day one would earn £1,381.92 in interest over the complete 30-month term. That is an illustration before any tax, based on Nationwide’s stated assumption. A smaller deposit or a later deposit will produce less interest.
Nationwide permits one of these accounts per saver. Its announcement says applications can be made in a branch, on its website, through Internet banking, or in its banking app. Confirm which routes remain available when you apply.
The bond is intended for existing Nationwide members and Virgin Money customers who are members of Nationwide. Having a Virgin Money relationship does not, by itself, establish that every applicant qualifies. The precise qualifying products, membership cutoff, age requirements, and any other conditions should be checked in the live application and product summary.
Do not assume that opening a new account today will make you eligible for this particular bond. Ask Nationwide to confirm whether your existing relationship qualifies before moving money or opening another product for that purpose. If you apply jointly, also check the rules for each applicant and whether the £10,000 limit applies to the proposed account.
Plan on committing the money for 30 months. Nationwide’s launch announcement does not set out the full early-withdrawal and closure terms, so check the current product summary before funding the bond. In particular, establish whether partial withdrawals or early closure are permitted, whether an exception applies, and whether an interest charge would be imposed. Do not rely on access being available until Nationwide confirms it in the terms for the account you are opening.
Keep money needed for rent, bills, emergencies, or a planned purchase in an account with access that suits those needs. The certainty of a fixed rate is useful only if the term fits your plans.
Nationwide’s announcement sets a £10,000 maximum balance and says money must be deposited within 14 days of opening. Check the current minimum opening deposit, the exact funding deadline, and whether you can make more than one payment during that window. Also confirm what happens if the account is not funded in time.
The cap matters if you have a larger savings pot: the advertised rate cannot simply be applied to all of it. Compare where you would put the remainder and what that combination would earn after tax. If you have less than £10,000, compare the expected interest on your actual balance rather than using the maximum-deposit illustration.
Interest from an ordinary savings bond can be taxable. Your position depends on your total income and savings interest across accounts, as well as the tax year in which interest is paid or credited. Ask Nationwide when this bond’s interest is paid and available, because the timing can affect your tax calculation.
For the 2026–27 tax year, the Personal Savings Allowance is generally £1,000 for basic-rate taxpayers, £500 for higher-rate taxpayers, and zero for additional-rate taxpayers. Some people can also use other allowances. Interest earned in an ISA generally does not count toward the Personal Savings Allowance, so compare the bond’s after-tax return with a suitable cash ISA as well as other savings accounts.
The Financial Services Compensation Scheme protects eligible deposits up to £120,000 per person, per authorized firm if the firm fails. The limit covers the combined eligible deposits you hold with that firm, not each account separately. Some brands share an authorization, so use the FSCS checker if you also hold money with related brands. Certain temporary high balances may have additional protection under specific conditions.
A fixed rate can provide certainty if variable savings rates fall. If competing rates rise, however, you could be committed to a less attractive return for the rest of the term. Neither outcome is guaranteed. Compare accounts over a similar period, then consider access, deposit limits, eligibility, interest payment dates, and after-tax returns alongside the advertised rate.
Before submitting an application, open Nationwide’s current product page or contact the building society directly. Verify that the bond remains available, read its summary box and full terms, and save a copy of the terms applicable to your account. Rates on offers open to new applicants can change or be withdrawn even when an existing customer’s fixed rate remains in place for its agreed term.
Nationwide announced the rate as fixed for the 30-month term. Confirm the rate and terms offered to you before opening the account.
Do not assume so. The offer is for qualifying existing members; check Nationwide’s current eligibility and cutoff rules before applying.
Nationwide’s illustration is £1,381.92 over 30 months if the full £10,000 is deposited from day one. The figure is before any tax.
