If you want to quickly access the Internet with your smartphone when you are out and about, then your own data volume will be used up if you are not currently connected to a WiFi network. In order to keep this data volume consumption as low as possible, you can deactivate the display or opening of images on websites.

Save Android data volume with Firefox
This is what it looks like with images on a website:

And so with disabled images:

You don't need WebExtensions or css code to deactivate this, you can also change the relevant value in about:config .
My description and the pictures refer to Firefox under the Android operating system .
And this is how the change is made in about:config.
First, start Firefox and then type in the address bar at the top
about:config
and press the Open button .
Then this page opens.
Then enter the following in the search field at the top right:
permissions.default.image
or just Permissions , then the entry below is already displayed.

The value on the bottom left is: 1
Now press the small up arrow on the right and change the existing value from 1 to 2 .
It will look like that:

In this case, the change is applied immediately without restarting Firefox. Reloading the website just accessed is sufficient, and no more images are displayed on this website or on any other website.
But if you want to display the images and not have to go through about:config every time to change the value, you can also create a new bookmark for it.
To do this, enter about:config in the address bar again and open the page.
Then save the page as a bookmark , and then go to edit the bookmark.
Then change the name about:config, for example to: disable images , and then enter the following as the address:
about:config?filter=permissions.default.image
and then just tap Save .
This is what it looks like:

Now a tip on the bookmark is enough in the future, and you are immediately at the existing entry in about:config.
Here you simply set the value from 2 back to 1 by tapping the small down arrow on the right side, and the images are immediately displayed again.
After reloading the previously opened website, the images are also displayed on this website again.
