First aid for drowning in children
The scene of the tragic accident
In the case of the boy in China, if someone was lucky enough to be at the scene, the boy's recovery rate would be faster. The longer you stay in the water, the greater the rate of brain death.
Of course, no parent wants their child to be in this situation. But what if unfortunately? Equip yourself with first aid knowledge to help your children and those around you if needed.
- Quickly take the child out of the water, put the child in a dry, well-ventilated place.
- Check if the child has stopped breathing, check the neck pulse, inguinal pulse to see if it is beating. If the pulse is not caught, the child's heart has stopped beating
- Extra-thoracic pressure pressure on the lower half of the breastbone (1 hand for young children, 2 hands for children over 8 years old), coordinate to give 15/2 (2 ambulance) or 30/2 (1 ambulance), suffocate (CPR) to provide oxygen, take a deep breath, hold your mouth close to the child's nose and mouth (for young children) or blow mouth through mouth for older children.
Drowning is more likely to happen to young children, especially during the summer
- Blow 2 times consecutively, each time for about 3 seconds, look at the child's chest or not.
- Perform heart compressions - asphyxiation every 2 minutes, reassessment, persevere until your heart beats and breathing again.
- Local first aid is considered successful when the child's skin is pink, can breathe, the heart beats again, feels the pulse clearly, the child regains consciousness.
- In the course of first aid should avoid handling such as shock. Hanging the child upside down only slows the rescue time and increases the risk of inhaling water into the lungs.
