Windows 10 remove 3D objects folder

With the big Windows update in autumn, called (Creators), Microsoft added another folder for Windows 10 Version 1709 under the This PC section, in addition to the folders for Pictures, Desktop, Documents, Download and Music. This folder is called 3D Objects.

Among other things, it is specially designed for the 3D Viewer and 3D Builder apps .

Remove 3D objects folder

And this is what it looks like in File Explorer with the 3D Objects folder .

If you want to remove this 3D Objects folder  from File Explorer, under the main folder This PC, you can do this with a small change in the registry.

The 3D Objects folder is retained, but it is hidden under This PC , i.e. it is no longer displayed.

Only a small change in the registry is necessary for this.

And this is how it is done under Windows 10 with a changed entry in the registry.

First we call up the Run window with the key combination Windows + R.

We then enter this text in this popup:

regedit

And then click on OK, and also confirm the existing warning message, but this time with Yes.

Then this page opens:

Then we need to look for this entry on the left side:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerMyComputerNameSpace

To do this, we copy the name of the entry and paste it into this bar at the top:

Then press the Enter key and you are immediately at the generic term of the value.

Here we are looking for the entry:

{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}

Then right-click on this value with the mouse and click on: Rename .

To make the 3D Objects folder invisible , simply put a minus sign in front of the value.

The changed value then looks like this:

– {0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}

A notice:

Users of a Windows 10 version as a 64-bit system must change the value in the same way:

{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}

also under the entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerMyComputerNameSpace

make.

So first enter the above value again in the search bar of the registry,

Then press the Enter key again , and you are immediately back at the generic term of the value.

Here, too, we then look for the entry:

{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}

and again simply put a minus sign in front of the value.

That's it, the change is applied immediately and without a PC restart.

If you now call up File Explorer using the key combination Windows + E , the 3D Objects folder is no longer displayed under the heading This PC .

If you want or need to display the 3D Objects folder again, you can easily undo the change by removing the minus sign in front of both entries.

Here, too, the change is applied again immediately without restarting the PC, and the 3D Objects folder is then displayed again in the file explorer under the generic term This PC.

Here again a personal tip from me.

Changes in the registry should always be made with the utmost caution , because deleting important entries could also cause irreparable damage to the PC or the existing software.

It is best to back up the entire registry beforehand and then save this backup .reg file in a safe place on your PC for emergencies.

To do this, simply click on the File button in the top left corner of the registry and then on Export.

and then assigns a meaningful name for this .reg file, an example would be: Backup.reg , so that you later know exactly what it was created for.
