The following article will guide you on how to use commas to separate thousands in Excel. All the methods below apply to all versions of Excel from Excel 2007 to Excel 2019.
1. Thousands separator in Excel using decimal button
This first method is suitable for quickly changing a specific cell. In that case, you just need to click on the decimal button icon to use it.
Click on the data that needs a decimal point or highlight the data area that needs to be changed, then click on the decimal button icon as shown below. Each time you click on this decimal icon, the number will automatically change accordingly.

2. Thousands separator in Excel via Excel Options

Step 1:
In Excel, click on File and then click on Options below.

Switch to the settings interface on Excel, click on Advanced on the left side of the interface. Then go to the right to find the Editing Options group . Find the Automatically Insert a Decimal Point option and select it to use.
You will enter the decimal point position shown in the number series in the Places box below.

After setting up, click OK below to save this new setting. So when you work on Excel in any spreadsheet, decimals are automatically separated by commas at the position we have set.
3. Separate thousands in Excel using Format Cells
Step 1:
First , highlight the data columns that need to be formatted to display commas separating thousands or hundreds depending on the number series in the data table. Then right-click on the table and select Format Cells… from the drop-down list.

Step 2:
After the Format Cells dialog box appears, we click on the Number tab and then select the Number item . In the Decimal places section , we set it to 3. Check the Use 1000 Separator (,) item and then click OK .
