5 tips to help your Windows 11 laptop battery last all day
Windows laptops aren't known for their battery life, at least not without some tweaking. But these tips will help your laptop last all day without having to find a power outlet.
5. Check GPU settings
Dedicated GPUs consume more power than integrated GPUs. This is part of the reason you get a performance boost when gaming, but it also comes at the cost of significantly shorter battery life. If your laptop has a MUX switch or the ability to disable the dedicated GPU, you can get a significant battery boost.
Some laptops will have two different GPU modes – hybrid and integrated. Both GPUs operate in hybrid mode, which is the normal mode of operation for any laptop with a dedicated GPU. If you want to extend your battery life, integrated mode is useful because it turns off the dedicated GPU, saving a lot of power.

4. Turn off unnecessary services
Here are some Windows cleaning actions that can improve not only your overall battery life, but also your system's overall responsiveness. As you probably know, Windows runs a lot of services in the background, and not all of them are useful for everyday use.

There are a number of services you can disable to improve battery life on your Windows laptop. These services include Windows Search Indexer, Connected User Experiences and Telemetry, and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), among others.
3. Check laptop performance mode
Most high-performance laptops come with OEM utilities that include performance modes or power modes. These modes are essentially power profiles that control the power of the CPU and GPU. Switching to a lower power mode will reduce performance, but will help extend your battery life.
Exactly how you control these power modes on your laptop will depend on the make or model. However, manufacturers often include utilities like Omen Gaming Hub, MSI Center, Dell Power Manager, Lenovo Vantage, etc. on their laptops to help you quickly set the right power mode.

2. Adjust brightness and RGB
If your laptop has an OLED or RGB display, you'll want to reduce battery consumption. Screen brightness, keyboard backlighting, and other RGB features drain more battery than you might think.

The best option here is to keep your laptop screen at the lowest possible brightness and turn off all other RGB lights, including the keyboard backlight. If you can’t turn off the keyboard backlight, switching to a static, monochrome color mode at the lowest possible brightness level might help. All those flashing lights on each key might look nice, but they’re a huge drain on your laptop’s battery.
1. Optimize Windows power settings
In addition to power modes, Windows has a number of additional power settings that can help you extend your battery life. These include a handy Screen and sleep setting that turns off your laptop's screen after a certain period of inactivity to save power. Here's how to set it up:
Expand Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts and set your preferred times for when your laptop is plugged in or on battery.
There are also some advanced power settings in Control Panel that can control power to system components.
Depending on the capacity and overall health of your battery, combining these settings can easily add about an hour of battery life to your laptop. There are a lot of Windows 11 settings you can change to maximize battery life, so getting it right means you won't have to worry about charging your laptop while you're on the go.
