Microsoft shares more noteworthy information about USB installation on Windows 11
In 2023, Windows 11 officially supported USB4 40Gbps, which was later expanded to support data transfer speeds of up to 80 and 120Gbps. USB4-enabled computers have a dedicated Settings page where users can adjust various options, manage USB4-based devices and hubs, and more.
Recently, in a community support blog post, Microsoft has continued to provide more information about the meaning of these settings so that users can better understand and take advantage of USB connectivity on their computers.
Recent versions of Windows 11 include some new USB related features/settings as follows:
Connection Notifications: This feature alerts you when the system detects connection problems, such as limited functionality, device recognition issues, etc. By the way, Microsoft has a dedicated support page where you can find all possible USB connection errors and how to fix them.
Slow USB Charging : These messages appear when the charger is incompatible or not powerful enough for your computer, when the cable cannot provide enough power, when the charger is connected to the wrong port, or when there is an obstruction affecting the connection between the port and the cable.
USB power saver : Most modern USB devices work fine in power saver mode, which lets Windows put them to sleep when not in use to save power. However, older USB devices may have compatibility issues with power saver mode. If you’re having trouble with your USB device, turning it off may help. Otherwise, Microsoft recommends keeping USB power saver mode enabled.
USB4 Hubs and Devices : This section provides all the details about the USB4 devices and docks currently connected to your computer, including name, ID, firmware version, USB4 version, etc.
Recent versions of Windows 11 place all of the above USB options at Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > USB . Note that some features aren't available on all devices. Connection notifications and USB power saving options will appear on all computers, while charging notifications are only available on devices that support USB-C charging, and the USB4 Hubs and Devices section is only accessible on computers that support USB4.
