You may have heard of the Apple U1 chip, but have not yet understood it. This article will help you answer questions around the U1 chip as well as its functions on iPhone and Apple Watch Series 6.
1. What is U1 chip?
Chip U1 (U stands for Ultra Wideband) is a chip that uses signal transmission technology at close range, similar to Bluetooth and WiFi, capable of accurately determining the distance between two U1-mounted devices and save energy when operating.

2. What is the U1 chip used for?
The U1 chip is designed to provide spatial awareness, enable chip-mounted Apple devices to be positioned more accurately than GPS and share data quickly via AirDrop.
For example, if you want to share data via AriDrop, just point your iPhone towards someone else's device, thanks to U1's detection capabilities, their device will quickly appear in the first position in the list your.

Besides AirDrop, the use of the U1 chip is also promoted through the Car Key feature.
Specifically, the Car Key feature allows users to use an iPhone or Apple Watch instead of a car key with NFC signaling technology. Combined with the U1, you can even unlock the car without using an iPhone or Apple Watch.

From iOS 13, Apple has merged 2 features Find My Friends and Find My Phone. Most likely, the U1 chip is used to find friends and search for lost devices.
Perhaps the fact that Apple uses U1 chip to position will become the beginning of the launch of accessory attachments (AirTag) is quite rumored in the future.

AirTag is supposed to be a navigation device attached to objects like backpacks, keys, etc. that can be searched through Find My Phone
3. What Apple devices does the U1 chip appear on?
Currently ( September 2020 ), the U1 chip appears on devices using iOS 13 and above such as iPhone 11 , iPhone 11 Pro , iPhone 11 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 6 recently launched.

The Apple Watch Series 6 is the first Apple Watch device to use the U1 chip
And in the future, perhaps Apple will equip its U1 chip on more of its devices and accessories. Hopefully many features of the U1 chip will be "revealed" by Apple in the shortest time. Anyway, this is something worth the wait.
Thank you for watching. Wish you have an enjoyable experience on your Apple device.
