All iPhone 16 models will finally support 45W USB-C fast charging
The new iPhone 16 series has been launched with quite a few upgrades, with the improved 48MP Fusion Camera, the all-new Camera Control button, and Apple Intelligence being the main attractions. During the launch, Apple highlighted that MagSafe wireless charging is now faster, from 15W to 25W. However, the giant failed to mention one of the undeniable upgrades to the new iPhone 16 series, which is 45W USB-C charging!
Since Apple didn't mention anything about wired charging speeds on the iPhone 16 series, everyone assumed that the new iPhones would still be stuck with the same 29W charging speeds as on the iPhone 15 series. Fortunately, that's not true.
According to a new certification from the China Quality Center, the iPhone 16 (A3298), iPhone 16 Plus (A3291), iPhone 16 Pro (A3294), and iPhone 16 Pro Max (A3297) support up to 45W wired charging via the USB-C port. As discovered by a user on X, the certification shows that all iPhone 16 models are tested at 5-15V and 3 amps, producing up to 45 watts of power.
That means the iPhone 16 supports up to 50% faster charging than the iPhone 15 series, which maxed out at 27W to 29W. That's a huge upgrade. People have been waiting for this for years.
Before Apple officially launched the iPhone 16, there were a few rumors hinting at faster charging across the lineup. However, nothing was confirmed. It's unclear why Apple didn't mention this 45W charging support. However, that's not too surprising, as Apple has never commented on wired charging during its launch. For example, it's been a few years since the iPhone supported wired charging above 25W, almost reaching 30W. However, Apple never talked about the numbers, only mentioning that you can fast charge your iPhone with a 20W USB-C charger.
Back to the point, the support for faster 45W charging on the iPhone 16 is a big step up from previous generations. What’s more impressive is that it’s available across the entire lineup. There’s no distinction between the standard and Pro models! While people are excited about this, it’s worth noting that charging speeds may vary between iPhone 16 models by region.
Since Apple doesn’t include a charger in the box, you’ll have to buy a compatible fast charger yourself. Once we get our hands on the latest iPhone 16 models, we’ll be conducting extensive testing to verify this 45W charging speed figure and see how long it takes the iPhone 16 to fully charge.
The iPhone 16 series will be available for pre-order starting Friday, September 13 and will start shipping as early as September 20.
