Apple is bringing Apple Intelligence to Vision Pro
Instead of doing the one thing that could actually make the Vision Pro more popular—dropping the ridiculous $3,499 retail price—Apple is stuffing the headset with unremarkable Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence will officially launch with visionOS 2.4
Apple Intelligence is being used on Apple Vision Pro
Apple Intelligence has been added to the first developer beta of visionOS 2.4, which is due to be released to the public sometime in April.
The beta for Vision Pro includes familiar features like Writing Tools, which can rewrite, proofread, and summarize text. There's also Genmoji, which lets you create custom emojis, and Image Playground, which creates images using simple text prompts. You can also chat with ChatGPT using Siri .
All previous features are available on iPhone, most of them are coming in iOS 18.2 in December 2024.
Apple also added a standalone iPhone Vision Pro app with iOS 18.4, which is also currently in beta. With this app, you can manage guest accounts and browse visionOS content like TV shows and movies. You can also transfer that content directly to Vision Pro.
A combination that no one expected
Vision Pro received a lukewarm reception upon its launch in early 2024. While the technology was great, the retail price put it out of reach for most consumers. Developers flocked to the platform before its launch, but most gave up after learning of poor sales.
While I enjoyed the Vision Pro demo at the Apple Store, there’s no way I’d pay that much for what the device offers. But Apple seems to be playing the long game, hoping to eventually release a cheaper version.
Apple Intelligence has its fair share of problems, too . While it likes the ChatGPT integration, photo apps aren’t as good as they could be. That’s not even to mention that problematic notification summaries have been partially disabled for some apps in iOS 18.3.
While some Vision Pro buyers may be happy to see Apple Intelligence support, this doesn't solve the long-standing issues with either.
