Apple’s AI division seems to be in trouble, with delays in the announcement of its “Personalized Siri” project and a constant shakeup of its leadership team. However, there are still bright spots for the iFan community to look forward to. The company is said to have ambitious plans for AI-integrated smart wearables. Recently, there have been increasing rumors that Apple plans to equip cameras on AirPods for AI-related purposes, and it seems that they have similar plans for the Apple Watch.
In the latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Apple writer Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is developing Apple Watch models with built-in cameras. This feature is said to help the device "see the outside world and use AI to provide relevant information."
According to Gurman, both the standard (Series) and Ultra Apple Watch lines will be equipped with camera sensors. The Series line will have a camera integrated into the screen, while the Ultra line will have a camera placed on the side, near the knob and buttons.

If you’re thinking about making video calls with your Apple Watch, it’s probably not a priority for Apple. The new feature will be limited to information gathering. Additionally, Apple Watch models with built-in cameras are still a few generations away, but Gurman predicts they could appear around 2027.
The integration of a camera into the Apple Watch to provide relevant information is still a rather vague concept, and its exact function is still in question. However, the camera sensor could support apps like Activity and Maps, but the feature could raise privacy concerns if it comes with video recording capabilities.
It’s possible that Apple took inspiration from Humane’s AI Pin. Although the product ultimately failed and the company was sold to HP, the AI Pin could have been a precursor to a camera-integrated Apple Watch. The AI Pin features a 13MP wide-angle camera that allows users to take photos and collect information. Similarly, the camera on the Apple Watch could also be used to translate text, similar to the Live Text feature on the iPhone.
