China plans to put surveillance camera system on the moon
China plans to put its Skynet surveillance camera system on the moon to monitor Beijing's upcoming facilities on the planet and boost its position in space.
Skynet, with more than 600 million cameras, is the world's largest video surveillance system tasked with monitoring activities taking place in China.

The agencies behind the project say the success of the Skynet project will help them build and operate an optical surveillance system for a lunar research station.
These cameras, which weigh just 100 grams, are "capable of independently identifying, locating, tracking and targeting suspicious targets" thanks to being equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) control chip.
China's version of Skynet on the Moon will include a large number of high-performance security cameras operating in both the infrared and visible light regions.
The system will "promptly generate warning signals and initiate appropriate response measures" if "anomalies" are detected.
The cameras will be sent to the Moon in batches. They will then automatically connect to each other, achieving seamless coverage of the station area.
The Lunar Research Station is a vast complex with a radius of more than 6km. It will have a power plant, a communications centre, a scientific base, a fleet of robots and a command centre. The station will also have its own satellites for remote sensing, navigation and communication.
