Earth will be hit by a super strong geomagnetic storm this weekend
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has warned that the Earth will be hit by strong geomagnetic storms this weekend. These storms could appear as early as May 10 or 11, causing disruption to telecommunications and radio operations for 2-3 days.
The strongest storm of the storm is forecast to be a G4, which is a superstorm. The remaining storms, also G1 and G2, will appear on May 11 and 12. NOAA said the geomagnetic storm is likely to have been generated by recent coronal mass ejections.
The article reported this coronal mass ejection on NOAA's Twitter account.
The coronal mass ejections from the Sun will now merge into a train-like series of energy jets hurtling toward Earth.
The Earth's atmosphere will be "attacked" and many places in the world will be able to observe the aurora. In addition, this geomagnetic storm, although only lasting 2 or 3 days, can still affect radio signal transmission on Earth, most seriously, the risk of GPS networks, radio communications, and mobile phones being interrupted or damaged.
Coronal mass ejections and associated geomagnetic storms are a natural part of the solar cycle. When the cycle is at its peak, the Sun is at its maximum activity, eruptions occur more frequently, and when they are directed towards Earth, our atmosphere absorbs a huge amount of energy. As a result, many activities on the ground are affected to varying degrees.
