In 2016, Google Assistant was launched for Android devices, giving users the ability to access unlimited information and perform various tasks on their devices through simple voice commands. Since then, Google Assistant has become an important part of the Android ecosystem's user experience.
But last year, Google introduced Gemini, an AI-based assistant that is much better at understanding and answering user questions than Google Assistant. The appearance of Gemini immediately raised the question of whether the virtual assistant model launched in 2016 will be replaced.
After a long wait, Google has finally made it official that the Gemini app will replace Google Assistant in the coming months. According to the roadmap, all existing Google Assistant apps will be upgraded to Gemini by the end of this year. After that, Google Assistant will no longer be available on devices in general, and will also be removed from the app store.
Beyond smartphones, Google will roll out the Gemini upgrade to devices like tablets, car infotainment systems, and wearables that connect to your phone, like headphones and watches. The company is also planning to bring the new Gemini experience to home devices like speakers, monitors, and TVs. More details on those plans will be available in the coming months.

You can download Gemini from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store today and start enjoying the upgraded experience on your smartphone. If you don’t do it manually, the automatic upgrade from Assistant to Gemini will happen over the next few months based on the following conditions:
If your device is a mobile phone or tablet:
	- Does your device have at least 2GB of RAM?

	- Are you in one of the 200+ countries where Gemini is available?

	- For Android: Is your device running Android 10 or later?

	- For iOS: Is your device running iOS 16 or later?

	- Note: Users on Android Go devices will not be able to use Gemini right now.

If your device is a headset: The digital assistant on your headset will match the digital assistant on your connected mobile device over the next few months.
If you use Google Assistant regularly, don't worry. Google Assistant will continue to work on your devices until the Gemini upgrade rolls out later this year.
