Google confirms issue with second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio
After a few days of confusion, Google has officially confirmed the issue with both the second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio.
Google says there is currently no fix for the cast issue
Chromecast error screen
The issue occurs when you try to play audio or video from your smart device to a larger TV screen. When you try to send content, you'll see an "Untrusted Device" error with an option to ignore it.
Google recently emailed users:
We’re reaching out to you regarding an issue affecting Chromecast (2nd generation) and Chromecast Audio devices. We apologize for the inconvenience and understand your frustration. We’re working to deploy a fix as soon as possible and will share updates and instructions on the Nest Community page. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue.
While Google acknowledged the issue, the company did not mention the cause.
Google has specifically said that users should not attempt to factory reset those models. Doing so will completely freeze them out of the devices. For anyone who has done so, Google says it will send specific instructions on how to reset the Chromecast.
Right now, if you have one of those Chromecast devices, all you can do is sit back and wait while keeping the device plugged in and connected to the internet. Hopefully Google will fix the issue soon!
There are other ways to project your iPhone or Android device to a big screen
If you own one of the troubled Chromecast models, there's good news. It's still easy to mirror your iPhone or Android screen to your TV using a modern smart TV.
Android fans can mirror their devices to the big screen using built-in casting features in supported apps and even directly from the Google Home app. You can connect your iPhone to your TV wirelessly using Apple's AirPlay protocol , a feature available on most newer smart TVs.
