Google Maps can now create travel plans from your screenshots
If you take screenshots of just about everything, including travel destinations you want to visit, you're probably used to seeing them disappear into your photo roll. Thanks to Gemini , Google might have a solution for you.
Google's latest update makes travel planning smarter and easier
Google announced a new “screenshot lists” feature today via a blog post on The Keyword. Whether it’s a photo of a destination you want to visit, a bunch of text from a notes app, or an Instagram Reel showing the top 10 places in New York City, this feature will help you keep track of all the travel-related screenshots you take.
If you have this feature enabled, Gemini will automatically identify locations in your screenshots. You will then be prompted to review and save the locations you are interested in to your “Screenshots” list.

Saved destinations will appear on Google Maps with their exact coordinates, marked with a camera icon.

The feature began rolling out in the US in English this week. It's currently only available on iOS, with Android "coming soon."
Google's new travel-related features don't stop there. The company has also updated its infamous AI Overviews in Google Search, allowing you to generate "trip ideas for specific regions or entire countries."
When searching for something as simple as “create an itinerary full of sightseeing and dining options,” Google will generate AI Overviews with day-by-day analysis, including photos and user reviews.

If you want to save your itinerary for later, you can export it to Docs or Gmail, or save it as a custom list in Google Maps. This feature is rolling out in the US on mobile and desktop, although it currently only supports queries in English.
When you travel, it’s understandable that costs can add up quickly. If you’re familiar with Google Flights’ price tracking feature, which alerts you when airfares drop, you’ll be happy to know that you can now do the same with hotels. When you browse hotels on google.com/hotels, you’ll see a new Track hotel prices option right below your search filters.

Once enabled, Google will email you if there's a significant discount on any hotel you've viewed. This feature is rolling out globally this week on both desktop and mobile browsers.
If getting started planning your trip is the hardest part for you, Gemini can help you out too. Even better, Gemini Gems, which is now free for everyone, lets you customize the AI assistant to create your own personal AI expert.
This way, you’ll have a personalized AI travel guide that helps you plan even the smallest details of your trip. However, many people are skeptical about Gemini’s vacation planning abilities, especially considering ChatGPT ’s poor trip planning skills .
