Google is testing a new verification feature through a blue checkmark in search that will help users avoid clicking on fake or fraudulent website links.
Many users, when seeing the verified blue checkmark next to business links in Google search results, assume that those companies, businesses, or websites are genuine and not fake addresses.
“We regularly test features that help shoppers identify trusted businesses and are currently testing showing a blue check mark next to some businesses,” said Google public affairs spokesperson Molly Shaheen.

Molly Shaheen also added that this test is not yet widely deployed and only applies to a few accounts.
When users hover over the blue tick, a message will appear explaining that the blue tick represents a genuine business, when they introduce themselves to Google. Thus, Google is not sure or guarantee the reliability of a business or its products. This is also clearly displayed in the blue tick message when users hover over it.

The test appears to be an extension of Google's Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature, which is used to display blue ticks in Gmail's web and mobile apps. Google has yet to officially announce when the search blue tick will officially roll out to users.
