How to check FPS in games on Android
Whether you're a casual gamer or a competitive gamer, getting the most performance out of your device is always a plus. One of the easiest ways to check if you're having a smooth gaming experience is to keep an eye on your FPS counter.
There are many ways to monitor the frame rate in a PC game, but your options are much more limited when playing games on your phone. This article will help you learn how to check the frames per second in a game on your Android phone or tablet.
1. Monitor FPS using the default Game Booster app
Most performance-focused Android phones have their own game-boosting apps or plugins. For Poco, it's the Game Turbo service, for ROG phones it's called X Mode, and there's also a dedicated gaming mode for OnePlus devices.
Typically, the easiest way to enable gaming mode on your phone is to launch a game that your game booster plugin supports (you should automatically see a prominent notification prompting you to enable or tweak some options). If not, look for a separate gaming app in your app drawer and make sure your favorite games are added to the list.
For example, to enable FPS counter on OnePlus phone:
Launch any game you want to play. You'll see a prominent notification letting you know that game mode features are available for this game.
Swipe down from the top left or top right corner of the screen and a menu with a myriad of features will appear.
Scroll down through the options and tap on System Status .
OnePlus Game Mode Shows FPS
This will show you a fixed FPS counter while you're playing your game. Depending on your phone, you may even be able to see other details like CPU and GPU usage.
2. Monitor frame rate using a third-party app
The above method should be enough for most gaming-focused phones from manufacturers like OnePlus, Xiaomi, ROG, and even Google . Unfortunately, not all phones come with a gaming mode pre-installed.
There are a number of third-party apps on the Play Store that claim to do the job for you. However, most of the apps I tested only reported the refresh rate of your screen rather than the actual frame rate that your GPU was displaying. One free app that shows FPS in games pretty accurately is FPS Counter and Screen Recorder.
2. Turn on the FPS Meter toggle switch and when prompted, tap Start Now to allow the app to record and stream your screen.
3. Launch any game you like and now you will see FPS counter on your screen.

4. When you're done playing, remember to go back to the app and turn off the toggle switch.
You can also choose to enable low readings of 1% and 0.1% for your FPS and record gameplay using the app. In testing, the app didn't always succeed in showing FPS in certain games, but you can use another option if you prefer.
