Netflix stopped supporting the third-generation Apple TV in June. Now, the streaming giant has confirmed that it will no longer support the Netflix app on iPhone and iPad models that are still running iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. In simple terms, the Netflix app on these devices will not receive any new updates in the future.
Specifically, the latest release for the recently launched Netflix app displays a warning about the end of support for iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 devices with the following content:
We've updated the Netflix app! To get the latest version, install iOS 17 or later.
Essentially, the devices affected by this decision from Netflix include the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, first-generation iPad Pro, and fifth-generation iPad (2017). As such, Netflix now requires users to have iPhones and iPads running iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 or later to receive the new update, no exceptions.

For now, iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 users can ignore the warning and continue using the Netflix app. However, these updates are important for the user experience, as they include new features and necessary bug fixes. In addition, the app will also be discontinued in the future. At that time, users of the above devices will have to use Netflix through a browser with many limitations.
It's also a good time for users with older devices to switch to a newer iPhone or iPad. Apple recently released the iPhone 16 lineup, which includes better cameras, a useful "Camera Control" button, larger screens, new processors, faster charging, and a host of other improvements. As for the iPad, Apple is expected to release new models later this year.
