Samsung has just expanded its popular commercial SSD lineup with the all-new 990 EVO Plus. This is a hybrid SSD that supports both PCIe Gen 4 and Gen 5 standards, boasting significantly faster speeds and larger capacities than current conventional SSDs, allowing users to quickly store up to 4TB of storage.
Technically, the 990 EVO Plus is an M2.2280 SSD that supports PCIe Gen 4 x4 and PCIe Gen 5 x2. According to Samsung, the 990 EVO Plus can operate at a maximum sequential write speed of 6,300 MB/s, and sequential read speeds of 7,250 MB/s (when connected to a Gen 4 or Gen 5 system). This is a significant improvement over the regular 990 EVO model, which, despite supporting the latest standards, is about 50% slower. In terms of random speeds, the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 4TB can achieve write/read speeds of 1,050,000 and 1,400,000 IOPS.
Performance is improved thanks to Samsung's 8th-generation NAND memory and its proprietary 5nm controller. In addition to better speeds, the drive is also about 73% more efficient than the previous generation in terms of power consumption.

Another key difference between the 990 EVO and 990 EVO Plus is capacity. Samsung now offers a 4TB option in addition to the 1TB and 2TB variants. Until now, only the flagship 990 PRO offered such a large capacity option.
Every Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD sold comes with a 5-year limited warranty. The 1TB model is rated for 600TB TBW (total bytes written), 2TB for 1,200TB, and 4TB for 2,400TB. Buyers can monitor and customize their drives in the Samsung Magician app.
The Samsung 990 EVO Plus is priced at $109.99 for the 1TB model, $184.99 for the 2TB model, and $344.99 for the 4TB model. You can learn more about the Samsung 990 EVO Plus on Samsung's official website.
