Simple tips to make Apple Calendar more useful
Apple's Calendar app is a great way to manage your schedule, but viewing an entire month on a relatively small screen limits the amount of information you can see. iOS 18 added a new feature that makes it easier to see everything at a glance, but you might have overlooked it.
View more or less information as needed in Apple Calendar
Previously, you could only see a few colored lines in the Apple Calendar app in month view by default. But iOS 18 added a feature that makes month view much more useful — you can now zoom out by pinching the screen, allowing you to see almost two months right on the home screen. This is especially useful when you’re doing advanced planning, like adjusting your to-do list to fit a weeklong vacation you booked a few weeks in advance.
Additionally, if you pinch out on the month view of Apple Calendar, you’ll now see some details about your events without having to switch to weekly, daily, or list views. If you zoom in even further, you’ll even see the start time of each event—making it much more convenient to plan your day weeks in advance.
However, this view only works in portrait mode. If you turn your phone sideways and use the Calendar app in landscape, the app reverts to a list view, limiting you to just one month at a time. Still, the ability to zoom in and out makes it easy to use the app for planning, and gives Apple an edge over Google Calendar.
This is just one of a few favorite hidden features in iOS 18 , and people will probably start using Apple's Calendar app more because of it. However, some of the other features introduced in this update are also quite battery-hungry, so you might want to turn them off if you want to extend your iPhone's battery life .
