The Moon Looks Majestic as Seen from the International Space Station ISS
Besides their daily tasks of conducting a series of scientific experiments in microgravity conditions every day, astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) sometimes also spend time admiring the scenery from “million dollar” views as an effective form of stress relief.
NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick recently shared a stunning image he accidentally captured while sightseeing on the International Space Station (ISS). The photo shows a half moon standing out against a backdrop of a picturesque sky, with fluffy white clouds below, creating a magical yet majestic scene.
Dominick and his colleagues' original intention was to photograph Tropical Storm Hone, which was raging off the coast of Hawaii. But shortly after passing through the storm, the astronauts happened to witness the moon setting, and this photo was taken.
In addition to his work on various scientific projects while aboard the ISS orbiting laboratory, Dominick is also known as a talented astrophotography photographer.
The astronaut has shared his photography with his 17,000 followers on social media X, including a series of images that not only show views of Earth and beyond, but also views inside the space station. Dominick also regularly experiments with different camera settings to test specific photographic techniques, such as multiple exposures.
During their breaks, ISS astronauts often gather at the Cupola Observatory, which offers them the best vantage point to take in the stunning views of Earth and space. It is also from here that countless incredible photos from the “million-view” perspective have been created.
