Snakes always amaze people with their extraordinary speed.
8. Black Mamba - Africa's fastest moving snake

The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is known as the "speed king" of the African continent as it can move at speeds of up to 20 km/h on the ground, equivalent to the speed of a moving bicycle.
7. Common Death Adder - Australia's fastest-attacking snake

The Common Death Adder (Acanthophis antarcticus) lurks in the vast forests and grasslands of Australia and is one of the world's most dangerous and agile snakes.
The Death Adder possesses a powerful neurotoxic venom. It only takes a tenth of a second for the snake to inject venom and bring its jaws into an active attack position.
6. Southern Black Racer - The fastest non-venomous snake in the world

The Southern Black Racer (Coluber constrictor priapus) is a nonvenomous snake found throughout the southeastern United States. Although nonvenomous, this snake can easily outrun prey or escape dangerous predators thanks to its ability to move up to 20 km/h.
5. Yellow-bellied sea snake - The fastest snake underwater

The yellow-bellied sea snake (Hydrophis donaldi) has the scientific name Pelamis and is widely distributed in the Pacific region.
The yellow-bellied sea snake has a slender body, up to 3 meters long, and a flat tail that acts like a paddle, creating a powerful thrust that helps the snake move at incredible speeds of up to 15 miles per hour (24 km/h).
4. King Cobra - The fastest venomous snake to kill people

The king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) is famous for its enormous size, extremely strong venom, and extremely fast venom injection speed.
The king cobra is the longest venomous snake in the world, injecting up to 7ml of venom in one bite, enough to kill an African elephant in just a few hours and take the life of a human in just 30 minutes.
King cobras can move at speeds of up to 10 mph, fast enough to chase and catch up with their prey.
3. Cottonmouth - The fastest-strike snake in America

Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus) or saltwater snake is famous for its ability to attack prey at an incredible speed in just 0.3 seconds, much faster than the blink of a human eye.
2. Rat Snake - Rat Snake

The rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta), also known as the black rat or black garter snake, is native to North America and can travel at incredible speeds, reaching up to 15 mph (24 km/h) on the ground.
Thanks to this speed, it can easily chase and catch up with prey such as mice, squirrels, lizards and small birds.
1. Sidewinder - The fastest moving snake in the world

Famous for its unique ability to move across sand, the Sidewinder (Crotalus cerastes), also known as the desert rattlesnake, is one of the fastest snakes in the world.
The Sidewinder's belly scales are asymmetrical, allowing it to "slide" across the sand and increase its speed. Combined with the technique of tilting its body to one side, forming an "S" shape and pushing the sand back with its belly scales, the Sidewinder can reach speeds of up to 18 mph (29 km/h) on sand.
