YouTube is testing music remixes created by AI
YouTube is testing a new feature that lets creators use AI to “stylize” licensed songs for their short films. The small group of creators with access can enter prompts to change different elements of the song, like the mood or genre of the song, and an expansion of YouTube’s AI Dream Track feature will create a 30-second remastered soundtrack.
According to YouTube:
If you're a creator in the test group, you can select an eligible song > describe how you'd like to rework the song's style > then create a unique 30-second soundtrack to use in your short film.
These redesigned soundtracks will have clear attribution to the original song via Shorts itself and the Shorts pivot audio site, and will also clearly indicate that the track has been restyled using AI.
YouTube said the Dream Tracks test will allow creators to perform songs using AI-generated vocals from artists who have agreed to participate, including Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend. It’s not yet known which songs might be remastered in the test or which record labels YouTube is partnering with. However, a June report from the Financial Times said YouTube had approached major record labels about using their songs to train AI models.
The Verge has reached out to YouTube for more information but did not immediately receive a response.
