How to install and use VPN on Windows 11
Installing a VPN will help keep your Windows 11 computer more secure.
We all know how attractive the macOS interface is. It’s no wonder many Windows users are jealous and want to emulate Apple’s macOS aesthetic. And the good news is that you don’t have to buy a whole new Mac to get a similar look.
Luckily, it's possible to create a similar visual experience on Windows using some third-party programs and a few easy tweaks.
1. Use macOS-themed desktop wallpaper
Before moving on to the actual steps to customize the Windows interface, you must first change the current wallpaper of your Windows PC.
Many websites offer a wide variety of macOS wallpapers, such as WallpapersHome, WallpaperAccess, and WallpaperCave. Just search for “macOS wallpaper” and you’ll find a wide selection of images.
Once you've found an image you like, download and open it. Right-click anywhere on the image and select Set as > Background to apply it to your desktop.
Install WinDynamicDesktop
If you find it difficult to download macOS wallpapers on the web, you can install WinDynamicDesktop to get access to a wide variety of macOS wallpapers.
Follow the steps below to get started with WinDynamicDesktop:
1. Download WinDynamicDesktop from the Microsoft Store .
2. Open the app, enter your location in the initial setup and click OK.
3. WinDynamicDesktop will give you a variety of wallpapers to choose from. Choose the wallpaper that best suits your taste and click the Apply button.
WinDynamicDesktop will automatically download the selected wallpaper and apply it to your desktop.
The biggest advantage of WinDynamicDesktop is that it downloads two different versions of the wallpaper. One version of the wallpaper is optimized for light mode and the other version is optimized for dark mode. The good thing is that it automatically switches wallpapers depending on the time of day.
2. Install macOS style cursors
The default Windows cursor is pretty basic and doesn’t have the same level of aesthetics as macOS. Thankfully, there is a way to customize the Windows cursor and make it look more like the macOS cursor.
To make your cursor look like a macOS cursor, you can use a macOS cursor theme, available for free on DeviantArt.
Here's how to install the macOS-style cursor theme on Windows:
1. Download the macOS cursor theme from DeviantArt and unzip the downloaded file.
2. Navigate to the extracted folder and enter the folder named Sierra and newer > No Shadow > Large . For this tutorial, we will install the large and no-shadow cursor themes. You can choose which variant you want to install by navigating to the desired folder.
3. Right-click on the Install.inf file and select Install from the context menu.
4. Select the macOS cursor design and click the Apply button in the Mouse Properties window .
5. Click Yes to replace the default Windows cursor theme with the macOS cursor theme.
Everything is done and now you can enjoy the macOS cursor theme on your Windows desktop.
If you’ve never used macOS before, you might not like the default macOS cursor design. So if you want to change it, go inside the No Shadow > XtraLarge folder and follow the same steps mentioned above.
3. Create a macOS Dock mockup using MyDockFinder
One of the most obvious differences between Windows and macOS is the Dock. On macOS, the Dock is similar to the Windows taskbar, and is always visible at the bottom of the screen.
If you want to replicate the macOS Dock on Windows, you can use a third-party program like MyDockFinder. MyDockFinder is a paid app that lets you add a macOS-style dock to your Windows desktop.
It offers a lot of customization options, including the ability to change the color, size, and position of the dock. It is a good alternative for those who want a dock that is more powerful and customizable than the free alternatives.
The biggest advantage is that it offers a simple user interface that makes it easy to customize your toolbar with just a few clicks. Additionally, it offers an intuitive drag and drop feature that allows you to quickly rearrange the applications on your toolbar.
If you are looking for a free alternative to MyDockFinder, check out our article on how to add a Mac-style dock using free tools on Windows .
To get started, you’ll need to purchase it from Steam for $4.99. Once you download it, it will automatically show up as a toolbar on your screen. If you want to customize it further, right-click anywhere on the toolbar and select Preferences.
4. Copy macOS menu bar using Droptop 4
Droptop 4 is a free Rainmeter theme that adds a macOS-style menu bar to your Windows desktop. The menu bar is a horizontal bar at the top of the screen that displays a list of menus and options, such as the application menu, notification list, brightness and volume controls, etc.
The cool part is that you have complete control over the menu bar with Droptop 4. It allows you to add different folders to your liking, pin different shortcuts to apps, install Droptop community apps, etc.
Follow the steps below to customize the menu bar with Droptop 4:
1. Download and install Rainmeter from Rainmeter.net .
2. Follow the on-screen instructions during the installation process to set up Rainmeter. Once complete, download the Droptop 4 Base version from Droptopfour.com .
3. Open the download folder and double-click the .rmskin file. The Rainmeter Skin Installer will open. Click Install to have Rainmeter apply the Droptop 4 skin and enable the menu bar.
4. Click Continue to start setting up Droptop 4. Select your language and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once you complete the setup process, Rainmeter will automatically apply the Droptop 4 theme to your desktop and the menu bar will appear at the top of the screen.
Note : If you have installed MyDockFinder before, you need to disable its menu bar first. To do that, go to MyDockFinder preferences and turn off the Enable myFinder option .
You can even drag and drop your favorite apps onto the menu bar for quick access at any time. Additionally, Droptop 4 allows users to easily access folders and files, with the ability to hide specific items from view.
5. Install macOS widgets using Rainmeter
While the previous tweaks will give your Windows OS a macOS-like look, you can take it a step further by adding macOS-style widgets to Windows. For this purpose, DeviantArt.com is a great site as it gives you access to a collection of pre-made macOS widgets for your desktop.
Note that the widgets you will add are all based on Rainmeter. Rainmeter is a free software that allows you to customize and personalize your desktop interface. It helps you apply custom widgets and themes to Windows.
Note : It is recommended that you create a restore point before proceeding further. It will help you restore your PC to a previous state in case the theme installation fails.
Here's how to install macOS widgets on Windows:
1. Download the Big Sur for Rainmeter widget theme from DeviantArt by clicking the download icon.
2. Extract the downloaded zip file and in the extracted folder, double-click the BigSur.rmskin file to open it.
3. Rainmeter will automatically detect the file and launch the Rainmeter Skin Installer. Click Install to apply the macOS widget skin.
You can then customize the theme using Rainmeter's settings and options. If you want to customize a widget, right-click it and select Settings.
Similarly, you can search DeviantArt for more widgets or even desktop icon packs to further personalize your desktop to resemble macOS.
