Admire impressive space photos from the $10 billion telescope
Recently, NASA has released many clear images of different areas in the universe taken by the world's largest telescope, James Webb , such as the Wheel Galaxy 500 million light years from Earth, the farthest star ever known...
The Cartwheel Galaxy formed about 400 million years ago. This image was created using the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam - data in blue, orange and yellow) and the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI - data in red). There are many individual stars among the red dust layers, which are isolated blue dots. The galaxy has two rings: a brighter inner ring and a more colorful outer ring.Earendel in the constellation Cetus, 28 billion light years away from Earth, is the most distant star ever seen, and has just been captured most clearly by the James Webb Space Telescope. In the image, Earendel is just a tiny white dot below the galaxy cluster WHL0137-08, where the arrow is. This star formed about 900 million years after the Big Bang, and it took Earendel's light 12.9 billion years to reach us. Earendel was first photographed in March by the Hubble Space Telescope. According to scientists' research, the star could be about 50-500 times more massive than the Sun and millions of times brighter."Deep Field" - the first color image taken by the James Webb Space Telescope shows the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, 4.6 billion light years from Earth. In the image, the details of the galaxy cluster are very clear, you can see the sparkling light from many different galaxies."Star Death" - a photo of the nebula NGC 3132, also known as the Southern Ring Nebula, about 2,000 light years from Earth. The image on the left was processed with a near-infrared camera, while the image on the right used a mid-infrared camera. The nebula consists of a gas cloud surrounding a dying star. This image shows Stephan's Quintet, a group of five galaxies discovered in 1877 by French astronomer Édouard Stephan. NGC 7320 is one of the galaxies in Stephan's Quintet, located about 40 million light-years from Earth. The other four galaxies are located very close together, about 290 million light-years from Earth. This image of the galaxy cluster NGC 3324 is part of the Carina Nebula, about 7,600 light-years away. It is one of the brightest and largest nebulae in the sky.The most detailed spectroscopic analysis yet of the gas planet WASP-96b, located 1,150 light-years from Earth. The planet, discovered in 2014, is half the mass of Jupiter and completes an orbit around its star every 3.4 Earth days.Since the late 1990s, NASA has worked with the European Space Agency to develop James Webb, with a budget of about $10 billion. This is considered the world's most powerful telescope, and is still in the testing stages. James Webb will officially operate later this year and is expected to provide detailed images of the universe, helping scientists explore and learn about the universe as well as life outside of Earth.
James Webb's centerpiece is a 6.5-meter-wide primary mirror made up of 18 smaller hexagonal mirrors, 2.7 times larger than Hubble's with 100 times improved sensitivity. James Webb's mirror is made of beryllium coated with gold.
The James Webb Space Telescope will orbit the Sun, 1.5 million kilometers from our planet, nearly four times farther than the Moon.
