F1 Standings After Mexico GP 2026: Antonelli Champion, Teams Battle On

Updated November 2, 2026: The biggest change to the 2026 F1 standings after the Mexico City Grand Prix is that Kimi Antonelli has clinched the Drivers’ World Championship. The Mercedes driver finished third on Sunday, November 1, giving him 380 championship points and an insurmountable lead. Max Verstappen won the race for Red Bull Racing and climbed to second overall, two points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes still leads Ferrari, but that title is not yet settled.

The Mexico City Grand Prix was Round 19 of the 2026 season at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. It was scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. Mexico City time (Central Standard Time, UTC−06:00) on November 1, equivalent to 20:00 UTC and 8:00 p.m. GMT (UTC+00:00) in the United Kingdom. The published finish is a race result, not a new event time. This analysis uses the championship positions published after the race on November 2, including the FIA’s post-race classification and points documents.

2026 F1 Drivers’ standings after the Mexico GP

Antonelli’s podium confirmed the title: he is now 119 points ahead of Verstappen with four Grands Prix remaining. The 2026 calendar has no further F1 Sprint weekends, so even four Grand Prix victories would offer a challenger no more than 100 additional race points. That makes Antonelli’s advantage mathematically uncatchable. The table below highlights the leading six drivers, whose totals agree across the FIA’s championship record and F1’s standings page.

3Lewis HamiltonFerrari259121
4George RussellMercedes250130
5Charles LeclercFerrari245135
6Lando NorrisMcLaren221159

What changed at the top? Verstappen scored 25 points for the Mexico win, moving from 236 to 261 and jumping ahead of both Russell and Hamilton in the order. Hamilton took 18 points for second place to reach 259, while Russell’s sixth-place finish added eight to reach 250. Antonelli collected 15 points for third; the championship was already firmly in his hands entering the race, but his podium made the outcome decisive. Leclerc added 12 points for fourth, and Norris took 10 for fifth.

Second place in the Drivers’ Championship remains competitive: Verstappen leads Hamilton by only two points, Russell by 11 and Leclerc by 16. The Mexico victory settled neither those runner-up positions nor the teams’ crown. The gap figures in the table are calculated from the points totals, not separate FIA awards or bonus points.

Mexico City GP final top 10 and the points they earned

The first six finishers were unchanged at the front, but there is an important distinction between results shown immediately after the checkered flag and the later FIA classification. The following points finishers reflect post-race penalties, not the earlier provisional race table.

F1’s initial results coverage and early race tables showed Oscar Piastri in seventh, Franco Colapinto in eighth and Pierre Gasly in tenth. That order did not survive all the stewards’ decisions. Piastri received a 10-second penalty for causing a collision; Colapinto and Gasly were also penalized for yellow-flag infringements. The reshuffle brought Lawson, Bortoleto, Hadjar and Hirakawa into the final points-paying positions. A reader checking an older screenshot may therefore find different results. The FIA’s Doc 86, Final Race Classification, and Doc 87, Championship Points, published November 2, are the appropriate references for the post-race table.

F1 Constructors’ standings: Mercedes leads, Ferrari closes the gap

The Constructors’ Championship adds the points earned by a team's eligible drivers; it is a separate title from the Drivers’ Championship. Antonelli becoming champion does not automatically mean Mercedes has won the Constructors’ title. The post-Mexico standings published by Formula 1 list:

Ferrari banked 30 points in Mexico through Hamilton’s second place (18) and Leclerc’s fourth (12). Mercedes scored 23 through Antonelli (15) and Russell (8). As a result, Ferrari reduced its deficit from 133 points before the event to 126 points afterward. Red Bull’s winner and ninth-place finisher contributed 27 points, while McLaren scored 10 with Norris; that strengthens Red Bull’s position ahead of McLaren in the Constructors’ table.

With four standard Grands Prix remaining and no more F1 Sprints on the published 2026 calendar, a team can score up to 43 points at each race if its two cars finish first and second. That leaves a mathematical maximum of 172 points available per team. Ferrari can therefore still overcome Mercedes’ 126-point lead, but it must make substantial gains. Mercedes would secure an unassailable points lead in São Paulo if it scores at least four more points than Ferrari over that weekend: its advantage would grow to at least 130, beyond the maximum 129 available over the last three Grands Prix. This is a mathematical scenario, not a prediction of the next race.

How to read F1 standings and avoid provisional-result mistakes

For a full-distance Grand Prix, the first 10 classified finishers score 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 point respectively. The points for a constructor are based on the eligible results of its cars, not the average position of its drivers. The fastest-lap bonus point was removed beginning with the 2025 season, so the fastest lap alone does not add a championship point in 2026.

  • Check the date of the standings: “After Mexico” means after Round 19 and its relevant official decisions, not before Sunday’s race or after a future round.
  • Separate race and championship positions: a race winner does not necessarily lead the overall season. Verstappen won Mexico, but Antonelli secured the world title.
  • Look for the latest FIA classification: stewards’ time penalties can reorder the final top 10, altering both driver and team points. Do not assume a checkered-flag graphic is the definitive table.
  • Check the two championships independently: Drivers’ standings rank individual competitors; Constructors’ standings rank teams. Those titles can be decided in different races.
  • Allow for subsequent official decisions: the FIA championship-points record includes a note about a notice of intention to appeal relating to an earlier event. Later rulings could require further checking of published totals.

What comes next after Mexico?

The next scheduled event is the São Paulo Grand Prix, November 6–8, 2026, with the race scheduled for Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. São Paulo time (Brasília Time, UTC−03:00), equivalent to 17:00 UTC / 5:00 p.m. GMT in the UK. The remaining Grands Prix are Las Vegas (November 19–21), Qatar (November 27–29) and Abu Dhabi (December 4–6). These are scheduled dates, not results; check the official calendar for any subsequent revisions.

With the Drivers’ title awarded, the most consequential standings to watch are the battle for second between Verstappen, Hamilton, Russell and Leclerc, plus Mercedes versus Ferrari for the Constructors’ crown. That is how the Mexico GP changed the championship picture: it crowned a champion, reshuffled the chasers, and left the team title for another weekend.
