Unlike Windows, Mac OS provides the ability to compress and decompress files and folders without installing external software. However, during use, many users still do not know how to use this useful feature. Let's learn how to compress and decompress Zip files with Mac OS in the following article.
Create and extract folders and files on your Mac
Create compressed files in Mac OS
You can create .zip compressed files in Mac OS in 2 simple ways:
Method 1:
- Create a folder to contain the files that need to be compressed, then drag those files into the newly created folder.
- Click to select a folder, then look on the Menu bar and select File -> Compress...
- Immediately after that, a Zip file containing your folder will be created. The file name will be set by default to the same as the original folder name.
Method 2:
- Press the Control key + Click on one or more files/folders you want to compress to display the shortcut menu.
- In the small menu that appears, click the Compress...
- If you compress a file, the compressed file will have the name of the original file along with the .zip extension. If you compress multiple item files at once, the compressed file is named Archive.zip.
Unzip files in Mac OS
To extract a .zip file in Mac OS, you just need to double-click the file. The folder or file will be unzipped and appear later depending on the processing speed of your computer.
Wishing you success!
