Why should you turn off Live Photos?
By default, new iPhone models will automatically record super short videos called “Live Photos” every time you take a photo with the Camera app. These Live Photos are vivid but take up a lot of storage space on the system. In fact, you don’t need Live Photos to take beautiful photos with your iPhone. Therefore, consider turning this feature off if you really want to optimize the device’s memory capacity.
Live Photos essentially captures three seconds of audio and video along with a still photo every time you take a photo. Typically, video takes up more space than still photos because it combines multiple frames of still photo and audio together.
In our iPhone 13 photo tests, we checked the Live Photos file size. The still image portion of a typical Live Photo is around 5MB and the video file is around 8MB, for a total of 13MB for a complete Live Photo. Multiply that by the hundreds or thousands of photos people typically store on their devices, and it takes up a lot of storage space.
If you just take still photos instead, they'll only take up about 5MB of space. You've saved 8MB of storage by turning off Live Photos.
