The battery of this year's iPhone 16 series is significantly improved compared to previous iPhone models.
Recently, the famous repair website iFixit shared a video of disassembling the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus showing how Apple's new electric battery removal process works.
Apple uses an improved adhesive with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus batteries that can be easily loosened with a low voltage current, such as from a 9V battery. To loosen the adhesive, attach a fish clip to the 9V battery, connect the red/positive clip to the silver tab on the iPhone battery, and connect the black/negative clip to the lower right ground screw on the iPhone speaker module. The adhesive will loosen in up to 90 seconds, allowing the user to easily remove the battery from the iPhone.
iFixit says that when the glue melts, the current oxidizes the cathode/anode interface and causes the glue to peel off the surface. The site calls the iPhone 16 "the most repairable iPhone ever" and gives it a 7/10 repairability score.
This move by Apple shows that the company has made important strides in improving hardware repairability, and ending component pairing restrictions has brought huge benefits to the repair community.
