This iPhone 16 Feature Will Make Your Videos Sound Better
The iPhone 16 models have a hidden feature that gives you more control over the audio in your videos. And that's thanks to Spatial Audio Capture, which uses all four built-in microphones on your iPhone while recording video. Here's how to use it!
Edit audio in videos on iPhone with Audio Mix
Audio Mix is a tool you'll find in the native Photos app when editing a video clip. However, you'll need an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro to access this new tool. More importantly, you'll need to record with Spatial Audio enabled to use Audio Mix.
All iPhone 16 models shoot video with Spatial Audio enabled out of the box. However, if you’ve tweaked your camera settings, go to Settings > Camera > Record Sound and check to see if Spatial Audio is selected.
Now, launch the Photos app and follow these steps to use the Audio Mix feature on your iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro:
- Find the video clip you want to edit and tap the Edit option at the bottom (located next to the Info icon (i) ).
- Select Audio Mix from the options that appear. If you don't see this option, you may have recorded your video without Spatial Audio enabled.
- By default, you’ll see Standard as the selected option, which is how you’d normally expect your iPhone video recording to sound. However, you can swipe left and choose from three other options:
- In-Frame : This mode reduces audio from sources that do not appear in the frame of the shot.
- Studio : This mode minimizes background noise and echo to make your footage sound like you shot it in a professional studio environment.
- Cinematic : This mode keeps ambient sounds intact but enhances voices in the frame to create a movie-like sound.
- You can play the clip to see if you like it, and you can also use the slider below to adjust the strength of the Audio Mix effect.
- When you're happy with the results, tap Done in the upper right corner to apply the changes.
It's easy to use the Audio Mix tool in the Photos app with videos recorded with Spatial Audio on your iPhone. The results may not always be perfect, but it usually gets the job done.
Note : You will get better results on the iPhone 16 Pro models as they have 4 studio-quality microphones with lower noise ratio.
This feature is most useful when you're vlogging and want to quickly trim out background noise before sharing it to social media. Thanks to Audio Mix and other editing tools in Apple Photos, you no longer have to rely as much on third-party video editing apps.
