Waiting nearly 10 years to unlock iPhone 4s
A female netizen in China shared how her iPhone 4s, which she entered the wrong password for and was locked in 2014, was finally unlocked, after nearly 10 years.
The locked iPhone 4s was then put away after the girl changed phones in 2015. Her parents then tried to unlock it multiple times but failed. According to Apple's policy at the time, iOS systems would accumulate downtime after multiple failed passcode attempts. And the girl's iPhone 4s had been locked for "over 80,000 hours," or nearly 10 years.
The iPhone 4s still needs another 288 minutes of "countdown" after being plugged in to charge before the password can be entered to unlock it again.

It has been almost 10 years since the iPhone 4s was locked, the girl recently took out the old phone cable and plugged it in to charge. When plugged in, the iPhone 4s showed 288 minutes of remaining unlock waiting time.
After the countdown reached zero, she was able to unlock her iPhone 4s, which was running iOS 6.0.1, and it was working again. She was moved to see the icons of many shopping and game apps that she had used before appear on the screen.
An Apple customer service representative said that in the past, if the password was entered incorrectly, the user could actually be disabled for 10 years, but now users do not need to wait that long. When the phone is locked, the user can erase the data on the phone through the Apple ID to unlock it again. However, the user can only wait for the time to expire and enter the correct unlock password if they want to keep the data on the device.
