AMD Announces Pricing and Expected Release Date for Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D
AMD has finally announced the release date and pricing of its highly anticipated Ryzen 9000X3D processors. Specifically, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D will launch on March 12, 2025, with expected retail prices of $599 and $699, respectively. This information was shared by AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager Jack Huynh on X:
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is the flagship model with 16 cores and 32 threads, based on the Zen5 architecture. The chip operates at a maximum speed of up to 5.7GHz with an estimated TDP of 170W. However, what sets AMD's X3D chips apart is not the clock speed or the number of cores, but the amount of stacked 3D V-Cache (second generation), which gives them a performance boost over the "regular" models. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 128MB of L3 cache, up from 64MB in the standard Ryzen 9 9950X.
The Ryzen 9 9900X3D is the lower-end model, featuring a 12-core/24-thread configuration with 128MB of L3 cache, a 120W TDP, and a maximum clock speed of up to 5.5GHz.
Both the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D are launching at the same price as their predecessors, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D, which were released in February 2023. However, unlike previous-generation Ryzen processors with 3D cache, this generation supports overclocking thanks to cache improvements. In previous-generation Ryzen 3D models, overclocking was limited to avoid stability issues.
The arrival of the Ryzen 9 X3D series is expected to bring a huge leap in performance, especially in the gaming aspect, where the large 3D V-Cache cache will play an important role. With stronger multi-core performance, these CPUs are not only good for gaming but also suitable for heavy tasks such as rendering, streaming and video editing.
