Snakes are reptiles with interesting ecology. They may or may not be dangerous. However, most people assume that they are dangerous. So why are some people willing to confront them with music?
Snake charmers have nothing to do with music but rather with the handler swinging a pungi, a reed instrument carved from a gourd, at the snake’s face. Snakes have no external ears and can only hear low-frequency rumbles. But when they see something threatening, they spring up in a defensive stance. “The snake’s movements are entirely dependent on the guy who’s playing the trick,” says Robert Drewes, chair of herpetology (the study of amphibians and reptiles) at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. “He sways, the snake sways.”

Snake "both blind and deaf"
In fact, although snakes' eyes look big and bright, they actually have very poor eyesight, and are even considered blind. Snakes have difficulty seeing things, they can only see a few centimeters at most and distinguish objects that are moving close by. Therefore, snakes "see" things through the skin on the outside of their bodies by sensing vibrations on the ground.
In addition, snakes do not have external ears, so they cannot hear sound waves from the air. However, snakes can sense ground sound waves with a frequency of 100-700 cycles/second. These sound waves are then transmitted through the ear bone to the inner ear. Therefore, although they cannot hear sounds in the air, snakes can sense footsteps from 50m away.
In short:
Snakes have a hearing organ inside their heads, which is connected to their jawbone. This is called a vestigial (immature or immature) organ. Snakes can detect the vibrations of any sound using this hearing organ. A snake's jawbone can move up, down, left, and right independently. When they crawl on the ground, they can detect the location or direction of sounds, such as the tapping of feet, by the movement of their jaws.
Furthermore, they have sensory nerves all over their skin and they are connected to their spinal cord. They are called mechanoreceptors. These nerves are very sensitive. These nerves help snakes feel the vibrations of sound.
