Google has announced plans to make its most advanced AI model, Gemini version 2.5 Pro, available to all Gemini app users for free. The beta, previously available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers, is now rolling out to the general public for free starting today.
Google unveiled Gemini 2.5 Pro earlier this week as its “smartest AI model” yet, with more complex thinking capabilities than previous versions. The updated model supports a variety of features including app and browser integration, file uploads, and working with Google’s Canvas collaboration tool.
Initially, access to Gemini 2.5 Pro was limited to Gemini Advanced users — a subscription fee of $19.99 per month in the US — but Google has now opened up the beta to everyone using Gemini, a move the company says is aimed at “getting our smartest model into the hands of as many people as possible as soon as possible.”

The new Gemini 2.5 Pro model is available on the Gemini website and will be rolled out to the Android and iOS mobile apps in the coming days. Recent app updates have also improved the user experience by making it easier to select and remember which Gemini model is in use.
The model, which is currently in beta, supports features like App/Extension integration, file uploads, and Canvas functionality. As referenced in the announcement, Gemini 2.5 Pro (beta) is currently leading the LMArena leaderboard. Google also noted that it is working on improving the programmability of the model. Gemini 2.5 Pro also has a context window of up to 1 million tokens, allowing the model to handle large datasets and maintain context over long interactions. The company plans to expand this limit to 2 million tokens in the future.
