Previously, the Safari browser on iPhone had no way to check a website's security certificate beyond a simple lock icon in the address bar. This meant you couldn't access detailed information about a website's security, and you had no idea whether the site was safe to visit.
However, starting with iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, Safari has finally been updated with a website security check feature on Safari. Users can view in-depth security details about a website's connection directly in Safari. Here is a guide to checking the security of a website on Safari.
How to check website security on Safari
Step 1:
First, you access a website as usual. Then, we click on the site settings icon as shown below. The menu for the website is displayed, we click on the 3-dot icon to access the settings for the website.
Step 2:
Go to the new interface, scroll down and you will see the Connection security details section for us to click to change.
This will open a panel showing whether the website is secure or not with the website's SSL/TLS certificate information. If you need more detailed information, click Details to see each digital certificate and additional security information.
Step 3:
Details may include subject, issuer name, serial number, validity period, public key information, key usage, extended key usage, basic constraints, subject key identifier, authoritative key identifier, certificate authority information access, subject alternate name, certificate policy, CRL distribution point, embedded signed certificate timestamp, signature, and fingerprint.
