What is WhatsApp Companion Mode?
WhatsApp Companion Mode is a multi-device access feature introduced by WhatsApp.
This feature requires at least two devices: A primary device with an active WhatsApp account, and one or more companion devices with accounts set up. This means all your messages and chat history will be easily transferred from your primary device to your companion devices.
When you visit the WhatsApp app settings page on a companion device, it will display a status that says: This is a linked device. All messages are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that each device's chat history, although similar, is kept separate.
The "This is a linked device" status on the device indicates that WhatsApp Companion Mode is active
Whenever your companion device connects to the internet, its WhatsApp app will show all your latest messages, regardless of whether you've logged out of WhatsApp on your main phone or not. This will no longer tie your account to a single device. This feature only lasts for 14 days, after which you'll need to log back in.
You can use WhatsApp Companion Mode on up to four devices. This can include Android phones and tablets, or iPhones and iPads. Obviously, you can’t use the same WhatsApp account on both iOS and Android.

Advantages and disadvantages of using WhatsApp on two or more phones
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps. People use it regularly to communicate with many people. Companion Mode has many advantages.
You don't have to carry your main phone with you all the time : Using a companion device means you don't have to carry your main phone everywhere. This reduces the risk of loss, theft, or damage from rain, dust, and other elements.
Minimize the risk of your WhatsApp account being exposed : You can remotely delete your companion app on another device. To maintain this privilege, simply log in to your primary WhatsApp device every 14 days.
Your contacts don't need to know about your additional devices : All your WhatsApp devices work at the same time and your phone number doesn't change. Your chat recipients and contacts won't feel any difference.
Improved Customer Support : WhatsApp is widely used for customer chat support. If you are a small to medium business, you can hire a total of 4 employees to operate the account properly on different devices.
Functionally, Companion Mode is very different from WhatsApp on the Web or WhatsApp on the Windows/Mac desktop. It ensures that your WhatsApp account is “always on” regardless of your device. The other methods require you to regularly log in to your primary phone to sync messages.
This feature has some limitations and drawbacks. Since you have to log in once every 14 days on your primary device, if your device is lost or stolen, your WhatsApp account will not be recoverable. However, you can at least back up your previous chat history to Google Drive.
