Emojis are an indispensable part of any messaging and social media apps today, making conversations more lively and interesting. Chromebooks and tablets running on Chrome OS in general also have a built-in emoji store. This article will guide you how to find them and use emojis on your Chrome OS device.
Using Emojis on Chromebook
There are basically two ways to enter text on a Chromebook: via a physical keyboard or an on-screen virtual keyboard. As such, emojis can also be accessed and used on these two types of keyboards.
Use emojis with physical keyboard
First, your cursor needs to be in a text input field. To add an emoji, first right-click on the text field.
An options menu will appear. Here, click on the " Emoji " option.
A pop-up window will appear with the available emojis and a search box. Thematic emoji categories will also be listed at the top. Simply search or browse through the list for the emoji you want to use and select it.
There's also a new keyboard shortcut introduced in Chrome OS 92 that gives you quick access to the list of available emojis. Just press Search/Launcher + Shift + Space , and the emoji window will appear. Click to select the one you want to use.
Use emojis with the virtual keyboard
Similar to many other operating systems, Chrome OS also has a built-in virtual keyboard for use on devices without a physical keyboard, such as tablets.
To bring up the Chrome OS virtual keyboard, simply click any text field.
Next, tap the “ Emoji ” button on the virtual keyboard. This button has a smiley face on it.
Note that for Chrome OS devices with a physical keyboard, the virtual keyboard may appear as a floating window instead of a full-size keyboard. For example, in the illustration below
After you tap the Emoji button, a pop-up window will appear with available emojis and a search box. Select the emoji you want to use. Note that emojis you've used recently will always be displayed first when you open the menu.
