Instagram Now Lets Users Schedule and Pin Direct Messages
Instagram's direct messaging feature is getting a bunch of new features, including scheduled direct messages that you can write in advance and set to send at a later date, up to 29 days in advance. You can also now pin up to three messages to the top of a conversation.
Meta says these changes are intended to help with messaging for people living in different time zones or to keep important messages visible in busy group chats where things can easily be missed.
Direct Message on Instagram
Some upcoming direct message-specific features include the ability to invite friends to a group chat using a QR code, along with message translation that supports 99 languages. You can translate any individual message and see the results online as if your friend had sent it in the first place.
Another cool addition is native in-app music sharing, which lets you and your friends listen to the same song at the same time or share them asynchronously without using a link or navigating away from Instagram.
You can access music search in the same view as stickers and animated GIFs.
Music sharing will expand to broadcast channels (which are like public direct message inboxes for creators with mostly one-way messages to their followers), though it's unclear if that will be true for other features, all of which are rolling out globally today.
