What is the IP standard?

IP standard is a standard evaluating the ability of external factors such as water, dust to enter the system of electronic equipment, abbreviated as Ingress Protection.

IP rating system was developed by the International ElectroTechnical Commission (International ElectroTechnical Commission and the standard set of IEC 60529. IP index is common on smartphones and smartwatches.

The meaning of the numbers according to IP standards

1. The first digit

The first digit in the IP standard describes its resistance to dust, solid objects, and utensils. 

- IP0x: No protection from contact and penetration of objects.

- IP1x: Protected against solid objects larger than 50mm in diameter. 

- IP2x: Resists the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12.5, such as fingers

- IP3x: Protects against tools, thick wire, and objects less than 2.5mm

- IP4x: Protection from wires, screws less than 1mm

- IP5x: Partially protected from harmful dust exposure.

- IP6x: Protect from harmful dust exposure.

2. The second digit

The second digit indicates the degree of protection of the enclosure from dangerous water penetration.

- IPx0: Not protected.

- IPx1 Resistant to water dripping in the vertical direction.

- IPx2 Resists water dripping upright to a 15 degree angle.

- IPx3 Anti-jet flow upright to 1 angle of 60 degrees. Splash water at an angle of up to 60 ° from an upright position will have no hazardous effects.

- IPx4: Resistant to water sprayed directly from all directions.

- IPx5: Resistant to water sprayed from the nozzle in all directions. Water sprayed from a hose (6.3 mm) into the camera body from any direction will have no dangerous effects.

- IPx6: Protection against strong jets of water for at least 3 minutes.

- IPx7: Protection from the effects of immersion in 1 meter water for 30 minutes.

- IPx8: Immerse more than 1 m, usually up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes. The exact conditions are specified by the manufacturer for each device.
