OpenAIs Sora Now Lets ChatGPT Create Videos Just by Entering Text
OpenAI is now more than just an AI chatbot and an image generator. The company behind ChatGPT has officially launched its video generator Sora.

Originally announced earlier this year, Sora is now available to anyone with a ChatGPT subscription. It’s not available through ChatGPT, but through the dedicated Sora website. To create a video, simply provide a quick description of what you want to see, similar to the AI image generation tools . You can also add other images and videos to help with the process. There’s also a storyboard tool that lets you specify exactly what’s shown in each frame.
These tools let you create videos up to 1080p resolution and up to 20 seconds long. You can also choose widescreen, portrait, or square aspect ratios. The site's Featured and Recent feeds show what other people are creating.
Anyone who signs up for the $20/month Plus plan can create up to 50 videos in 480p resolution or fewer videos in 720p resolution per month.
To get more out of Sora, you’ll need to upgrade to the $200/month Pro plan announced last week. These subscribers get 10x more views, higher resolution, and longer video length.
OpenAI has said that the current version of Sora has some limitations such as unrealistic physical objects and will struggle with complex actions over long periods of time.
All videos from Sora will be tagged with specific metadata to identify the video as coming from the service. Watermarks will also be displayed by default. OpenAI is also blocking the creation of deepfakes of sex and child sexual abuse material. People’s uploads will also be limited at launch.
A new step in AI?
OpenAI's ChatGPT pioneered AI-powered chatbot technology and has led to similar options from Google, Microsoft, and others. ChatGPT is also making certain types of websites obsolete.
While Sora is clearly in its early stages, it seems like this video generator could be another way for OpenAI to continue to lead the field. Like ChatGPT, Sora will likely get better with new technology.
