Control your TV with Samsung SmartThings
Today, Samsung TVs run the Tizen OS, developed by Samsung. You can interact with them using the Samsung SmartThings app . SmartThings comes pre-installed on Samsung phones, but it's one of many Samsung apps you can download on any other smartphone.
The setup process is simple, but the accessibility of the virtual TV remote app is appreciated. Just open SmartThings, tap the Frame TV in the device list, and the virtual remote will appear.
Samsung's user interface is consistent across devices
Samsung's phone and tablet interface is called One UI. In 2024, One UI came to Samsung TVs. This means there's some consistency across devices if you own both a Galaxy phone and a Samsung TV.
The app icons are consistent across all devices, plus you get the same services. Just like Samsung phones come with the Gaming Hub app, so do Samsung TVs. You can play the same games on both devices.
Cast video by tapping your phone to your TV
Once you set up your TV, you’ll be notified of a feature that’s exclusive to your Galaxy phone. To mirror the content on your phone’s screen to the TV, you can tap your phone on the top-right corner of the TV. Doing so will prompt a pop-up window to confirm whether you want to mirror the content on your screen. The TV will then display the exact same content as your phone’s screen, with a giant black cylindrical box on either side.
You can now cast specific apps like YouTube, which will then put the YouTube app in a floating window on your phone that is mirrored to your TV. This way, you can watch videos on your TV while continuing to use your phone for other things.
Multitask with Multi View
Samsung TVs also have a Multi View feature that allows for different types of split screens. By default, it puts two videos side by side horizontally, but when you mirror your screen, you can hold your phone up to one side while another large video takes up most of the screen.
If you prop your phone up, you can set it to display your workout on one side while opening a video tutorial to guide you on the other.
Even better if you have Samsung Galaxy Buds
You don’t need a Samsung Galaxy phone to use the Galaxy earbuds, but chances are you own both. One great thing about the ecosystem is that devices automatically discover each other, which is great because it’s not just a feature reserved for more expensive earbuds like the Galaxy Buds Pro 3.
Switching between your TV speakers and Galaxy Buds may sometimes require manual input. However, if you’re playing from your phone and listening to a video or music on your phone through your headphones, the audio will continue to play through your headphones once it’s transmitted to your TV. Your Galaxy phone, Buds, Watch, or Samsung TV can all work with non-Samsung devices, but you get some extra benefits when you use them together.
