Intel loses $30 billion PlayStation 6 chip contract
Intel has reportedly lost the race to supply processors for Sony's next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 6.
For months now, the biggest mystery in the gaming industry has been the existence of the PS5 Pro. Developers have been preparing games for the new console, and everything from the specs to the design of the new console has leaked online. And now, it finally looks like Sony is ready to launch the new PlayStation 5.
Sony Announces "PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation"
In a new PlayStation blog post, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 technical presentation will take place on September 10. It will be a nine-minute stream hosted by Mark Cerny, the PS5's Chief Hardware Architect. Cerny also revealed the PS5's specs ahead of its official launch.
Details on what will be announced on the stream are scarce, but it seems certain that Cerny will officially unveil the PS5 Pro. The post states that the presentation will “focus on PS5 and advancements in gaming technology,” which suggests a new version of the PS5 is coming.
The PS5 Pro is finally coming

Why do we think this is the PS5 Pro and not something else? The PS5 Pro has been available to developers as a test kit for months, and Sony even revealed the design in a PlayStation 30th anniversary blog post. So it definitely exists, and it was just a matter of time before Sony revealed it.
According to various leaks over the past few months, the Pro will have a more powerful GPU and other improvements. The end result is that the PS5 will likely be capable of higher resolutions, improved frame rates, and better ray tracing (although some have argued that ray tracing isn't important).
How to see PS5 Pro notifications
According to this technical presentation, Sony will launch the PS5 Pro at 8am PT/11am ET/4pm BST on September 10, 2024. The stream will be on PlayStation's YouTube channel , so you'll just need to head there if you want to watch.
Whether the PS5 Pro is worth buying depends on how many improvements Sony has made. Are these changes purely cosmetic? Or has the company also worked to improve loading times and other aspects? Then there’s the price, with the PS5 Pro expected to cost at least $600 at launch.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has just launched a series of PlayStation 5 game consoles and special limited edition accessories to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic PlayStation brand.
On January 24, Sony Japan suddenly announced that it will stop producing or selling blank Blu-ray discs in the domestic market.
While there was plenty of new car news at CES 2025, the most talked-about topic at this year's event was a somewhat familiar name: the Afeela 1.
When buying a TV, people are looking for quality and reliability, which can only be found in reputable brands. That's why you should only buy a product from one of these 6 manufacturers when you want to upgrade your next TV.
Recent rumors suggest that Sony is working on a new version of the PlayStation 5 (PS5), called the PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro) and is expected to launch sometime in the second half of 2024.
