If you are a long-time player of a certain game, you must know the terms that players use in the game. These terms can refer to things, events or simply slang used by gamers in the game.

League of Legends terminology is one of the things that players are most interested in when playing. In some cases, you need to know the terminology in the game to better coordinate with your teammates or to know that the term refers to a certain thing or event.

Commonly used terms in League of Legends

1. A

• ACE: means Clean Sweep
• AD (Attack Dame): means Physical Damage (Attack Power) often mistakenly written as at/at gunner. Often confused with ADC so now AD is understood as gunner.
• ADC (Attack Dame Carry): means Gunner, often mistakenly written as ad, ac, at / physical damage (attack power). Often mistakenly written as AD, so ADC can be understood as a gunner.
• AFK (Away From Keyboard): AFK means the player is inactive in the game or disconnected. If someone tells you to AFK, it means they are telling you to leave the game.
• Aggro/Aggression: Target a Minion or Tower
• AI (Artificial Intelligence): means Machine vs. Machine with pre-programmed (similar to bot)
• AoE (Arena of Effect): Wide area attack.
• AP (Ability Power): Magic power.
• Ap Ratio: Magic Power Ratio, indicates the ability to increase magic power proportionally.
• AR (Armor): Armor, increases the ability to reduce Physical damage.
• Aram: Name of a random 5v5 champion map with 1 Howling Abyss lane.
• ArP (Armor Penetration): Armor Penetration (lethal), increases physical damage dealt by ignoring a portion of armor (direct or proportional).
• AS (Attack Speed): Attack Speed

2. B

• B (Back): Back/return, this is also the shortcut to return to the ancient stone pedestal
• Backdoor: Pushing lanes or towers without the enemy knowing or not returning in time
• BG (Bad Game): LoL term for a bad match
• Bait/Baiting: To lure the enemy, meaning to make the opponent do as you wish.
• Blue: Giant Blue Stone Jungle, Blue Buff. A buff of insight that gives 10% cooldown reduction and faster mana regeneration for 2'30s. Giving up Blue means giving up the blue buff.
• Bot: Means Machine, user will compete with pre-programmed machine (similar to AI).
• Bot (Bottom/Bot lane): In addition to meaning Machine, this is also the position that indicates the bottom lane.
• BrB (Be Right Back): Means " come right back ", is to leave to heal, buy items or do something then come back quickly by tele or skill
• Brush: Means grass, bushes, no vision in the game
• Buff: Increase strength/health/armor. Buffing generals means using skills/equipment/spells to give good effects to allies/bad effects to opponents.

3. C

• Camp: To camp and gank a lane repeatedly. Usually refers to being ganked repeatedly by the jungler.
• Care: Be careful
• Carry: The general who carries the team in the late game. This means that the general needs equipment to have strength in the late game, and needs to farm a lot in the early game to get gold.
• Cb(Combat): Means Battle.
• CC (Crowd Control): This LOL term refers to control effects. It means effects that affect the opponent's movement/skill usage such as stun, silence, slow, fear, root,...
• CD (Cooldown): Cooldown time, when you say this LOL term, your teammates will understand that your cooldown is not over yet.
• CDR (Cooldown Reduction): Cooldown Reduction
• Champ (Champion): General/Hero
• Combo: A series of moves. You can understand it as using the champion's moves according to the standard formula. This is the way to use skills in order to achieve the highest efficiency.
• Counter Jungle: Steal the enemy jungle
• Cover: Protection/Support, means supporting allies
• CR (Creep): Vehicle or artillery soldier, can also be jungle monster if farming index is considered
• CrC (Critical Strike Chance): Critical strike rate, increases critical strike chance
• CrD (Critical Strike Damage): Critical Strike Damage, meaning increased damage dealt by critical strikes.
• CS (Creep Score): Farm index (Minions + jungle monsters)

4. D

• Dis (Disconnect): Means to lose connection, often mistakenly written as "dit" or "ass". In general, it is easily misunderstood as swearing.
• Dive/Tower Diving: Get within the tower's line of sight
• DoT (Damage over Time): Damage over time
• DPS (Damage Per Second): Deals a large amount of damage in a short period of time, also known as burst damage.
• Tax: Stop and farm another lane's minions after taking a team fight, usually the Jungler.
• Split Pushing: Pushing lanes alone after laning phase, usually in 1-4 or 1-3-1 formation and not all champions can split push alone. Some champions can split push like Jax, Fiora, Camile, Singed,... and tank champions.
• Bronze Rank: The lowest rank in League of Legends but is often understood to mean being scolded for playing stupidly or not knowing how to play. Some similar names are Bronze Rank, Plastic Rank, Wood Rank, Cu Rank...
• Minion Freeze: Keeps minion position unchanged (usually last hitting) making it impossible for the opponent to farm or avoid ganks.

5. E

• ELO: A point system based on stats in each match. Often written High Elo meaning Winning many matches in a row or Hell Elo meaning Losing many matches in a row .
• Exp (Experience): Experience points to level up

6. F

• Facecheck: Grass Check
• Faker: A player with good skills. Implied compliment for someone who is good or exceptionally good.
• Farm (Farming): The act of killing soldiers/jungle monsters to earn gold
• Fed: Earn a lot of money after killing many enemy generals
• Feed/Feeder: (A person) who dies more than he gets in a match. Anyone who dies continuously is called a feeder.
• FF: Surrender, surrender vote phrase with command "/ff"
• Flash: Summoner Spell Flash

7. G

• Gank: Combat with the help of allies from other lanes, usually just the Jungle suddenly coming to the lane or other lanes getting involved in a certain lane.
• GG (Good Game): Means the end of a good match, now this word has been understood as surrender.
• GGWP (Good Game Well Played): Similar to Good Game
• GOSU: A player with good personal skills, when said it implies complimenting someone's skills.
• GP5 (Gold Regen): Gold amount increases every 5s

8. H, I, J, K

• Harass: Poke/bleed, annoy the opponent
• HP (Hit Point, Health Points): Health index
• HP5 (Health Regen): Health restored every 5s
• IAS (Increased Attacks Speed): Increases attack speed
• Imba: League of Legends term for dominance, showing the high level of the gamer
• Initiate: Armor/Start combat
• Invade: Invade the enemy jungle
• Inzumin import: Leesin Sonic Wave Slider, Inzumin used to play professionally for Saigon Jokers, now a commentator. It means this gamer plays like Inzumin.
• Juke/Juking: Trick the opponent to escape pursuit
• Jungleling/Jungle/Forest: Eat Jungle Monsters/Jungler
• Kill: Means killing people or monsters, often mistakenly written as Skill
• Kite/Kiting: Kite flying or Hit and Run , is an LOL term that refers to running and attacking at the same time to keep distance from the opponent while still causing damage and canceling unnecessary moves, only long-arm champions can do it.
• KS (Kill Steal): Stealing a kill that an ally was about to get, refers to not being the one who dealt most of the damage but being the one who got the kill.

9. L, M

• Lane: League term for the path of soldiers, usually there are 3 lanes: TOP, MID, and BOT but Jungle can also be counted as 1 lane.
• Last Hit: LoL term for the finishing blow to get gold, also with the purpose of freezing the minions, not allowing the opponent to farm.
• Leash: Pulls monsters for teammates to attack, taking damage from monsters
• Leaver: Refers to the person who leaves the game before finishing the match.
• Lv (Level): The level of the general in the game, often mistakenly written as Lever. When you level up, you will increase many stats and gain additional skill points.
• Meta/Metagame: The gameplay and tactics that are most suitable for each stage of the season, usually initiated by a certain team in the professional League of Legends tournament . Proven to be effective and suitable for different situations.
• MIA (Missing in Action): Losing track of an opponent, unable to predict their actions.
• Mid (Mid lane/Middle): League term for the mid lane position/mid lane player, often written as mit, mit, mis, miss
• Misaya: The meaning is understood as Combo Twisted Fate: Destiny (R) + Golden Card in the middle of the enemy team + Hourglass. Usually written as Mit, mit, mis, miss. Misaya is a professional gamer of Team WE. In the first seasons, Misaya's Twisted Fate was always banned. Legend has it that Misaya is the only gamer who can calculate the card selection cycle of W while it is on cooldown.
• MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Area): This is a PVP siege game genre on a square map divided into 3 lanes like LMHT, Dota, 3Q
• MP (Mana Points): Energy index (below the health bar), not all champions have a mana bar.
• MP5 (Mana Regen): Amount of energy recovered every 5s
• MPen, MrP (Magic Penetration): Only penetrates magic resistance, increases magic damage dealt by ignoring a portion of magic resistance (direct or proportional).
• MR (Magic Resist): Magic resistance equipment, resists magical power.
• MS (Movement Speed): Movement Speed

10. N, O, P, Q

• Noob (Newbie): This alliance term refers to a new player, a rookie.
• Nerf (Nerfed): Reduce the power of a champion that is too strong compared to the rest to balance the game. Not only strong champions are nerfed, but champions that are suitable for a certain playstyle or build style that is too strong can also be nerfed.
• Offtank (Offensive Tank): LOL term for backup tanker (when the main tank cannot enter combat)
• OOM (Out of mana): Out of mana, a state of not having enough energy to use skills
• OP (Overpowered): The strong one (in the game)
• Open Mid: A phrase that means letting the enemy team go all mid to win the game quickly. You can use this phrase anywhere, but it is mainly used in Korea. Because there are many gaming conditions, players want to lose quickly to start a new game when they are short of players or lose the lane.
• Outmeta: Refers to a champion that is no longer suitable (or less played) in a certain version of League of Legends. Outmeta is not necessarily weak, but rather more suitable for the new meta. Outmeta champions will often be left and adjusted by Riot.
• Outplay: The act of turning a losing teamfight into a winning one. Usually means using a skill to win or escape from an opponent while being chased. Good outplays are often seen in solo lanes.
• Ping: Signal that helps communicate in-game between teammates
• Poke (Poking): Harass or damage opponents from a distance with a wide-area skill
• Proxy: Eat minions behind the tower
• Pushing: Pushing lanes and killing minions with the intention of destroying towers, also known as Tower Pushing
• Throwing the game: Increasing the difficulty of the game, or you can be the team has the advantage so you or someone in the team likes to show off or try to get kills to break the formation. The result will be the game is reversed or have a highlight to balance the team.

11. R, S

• Re: Reappear (enemy)
• Red: Red buff/jungle monster camp Red thorns become spirits. Cinder buff gives the ability to heal outside of combat and burn attacks + slow enemies for 2'30s. If you ask for Red, you want you to give up the red buff.
• River: The river cuts across the middle of the map.
• Roam: Move to other lanes to gank like jungler
• Rune: Gems/ Gem Board
• Scales: Skills/Actions become stronger thanks to items.
• Scaling: Skills/Abilities become stronger thanks to Gems
• Skill: The champion's skills/moves
• Skill Shot: Directional skill, a move that goes in a predetermined direction.
• Skill Target: Skill/Target Skill. Skill flies straight to the designated target.
• Smite: Smite Summoner Spell
• Smurf: Refers to high-ranking people playing low-ranking accounts to win. Simply put, this is hiring, rank-raising...
• Snowball: Snowballing is simply the process of turning small advantages into larger advantages.
• SoloQ or Solo Queue: This is a single rank match but you can understand it as a solo rank match of experts to show off their skills (streamers for example)
• SP (Support): Support position only

12. T, U, X, W, Z

• Tank (Tanker): This League term refers to the person who takes most of the damage, usually the vanguard of the team.
• Team Fight: This League of Legends term refers to 5v5 Combat
• Tele/TP (Teleport): Summoner Spell Quick Teleport

• TeLEPort: Just a fast but inaccurate teleport. Specifically, LEP's teleport with Lulu into the middle of the enemy C9 team while being shot by the tower and landing with 1/4 health.

• Top: LOL term for top lane position/top lane player

• Troll (Troller): Someone who causes trouble and disrupts the game. Intentionally dies, swears, has inappropriate item builds, fights for lanes, disrupts the team and the game. Usually immature.

• TT (Twisted Treeline): 3vs3 map name Twisted Treeline

• Ulti/Ult/Ultimate/R: The final move, the ultimate move not every champion has, or it is not necessarily the strongest skill. But Ulti usually brings high mutation.

• UP (Underpowered): Champion/Equipment/Item is too weak compared to the general level

• Xpeke: Means Backdoor/Destroy the enemy's base when there are no enemies. You can watch the match where Xpeke used Kassadin backdoor to help Fnatic win with 39 health + 4 team deaths.

• Wombo Combo: Similar to combo but is a way to combine the skills of many champions together. For example, Yasuo combined with Malphite, Orianna, Rakan and Missfortune.

• Zone (Zoning): Control area, vision area. Mainly areas around towers, NPCs, champions, wards, soldiers.
