Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2: 10-inch tri-fold screen phone
Tecno recently introduced the Phantom Ultimate 2 tri-fold with two hinges and a 10-inch screen, reaching a thickness of 11mm when folded.
In phone mode, the Phantom Ultimate 2's 6.48-inch display uses an LTPO OLED panel. When opened, the screen size increases to 10 inches with a resolution of 1,620 x 2,880px, with a 4:3 aspect ratio similar to Apple's iPad.
When fully folded, the device has an ultra-slim design, just 11mm, not much larger than a regular bar phone, thanks to the dual-hinge mechanism developed by the company.
Tecno said it used TDDI technology to place both the display driver and the touch sensor on a single chip on the Phantom Ultimate 2. This is the first foldable phone to use this new technology. The new technology supports flexible folding screens.
Phantom Ultimate 2 has been tested and works well with a limit of 300,000 folds. The dual hinge mechanism helps Phantom Ultimate 2 limit the crease in the middle of the screen. The company also successfully developed the thinnest battery cover design on a smartphone, only 0.25mm to support the overall slimness.
With the tri-fold screen, the manufacturer also offers some ideas about the usage position for the device such as tent mode that allows two people facing each other to chat with the live translation feature or like a laptop with the bottom half folded for the keyboard and notes.
Tecno customizes the Android operating system to support multiple application windows at the same time, taking advantage of the large 10-inch screen. The configuration of the device has not been announced but it will likely run the most powerful Snapdragon chip.
Phantom Ultimate 2 is currently a concept product only, with no plans to be released to the market.
